So this will only be on gog via GOG Galaxy. I don't see the difference between that and steam.. As D:OS doesn't use steamworks
and you can play it without staring steam. Just use steam to update it, exactly the same way Galaxy will work...

Well, this solves my problem with Larian Vault not wanting to issue me my GOG key. I don't think I want it any more. Thanks, CDP and GOG!

Nobody said it'll be a Galaxy exclusive. They might just be waiting for Galaxy before they release the game.

BTW, I wonder if this will happen with WL2. Maybe they'll delay its release to the last day of August so everybody gets it on the same day.

Did you put your code into the Kickstarter field at the beginning, when you made the profile?

I got my trunks okay - but the other co-op player didn't, and we're both with KS Codex Editions.

Looks like I'm riding with Steam on this one.

Still not sure I can play though. The absence of companions, I can roll with, but that A.I. personality is a mechanic I want to explore.

Yes, if you are a backer, then you can download it from GOG
Nope, I'm being punished for playing for 55 minutes on Steam Early Access:

I keep coming back later, but nothing changes.

Play on Steam now, convert to GOG once GOG stops being retarded about it?

I'm loving the game so far, except for a single feature that really feels out of place to me: random loot.
I think it's an absolute mismatch for this kind of RPG.
random loot is not as bad as scaling loot. if you level enough you'll eventually craft items that will be impossible to equip because of their attribute requirements (unless they fixed that in the couple last patches).

Crap, put in the code, no 1.2 GB download for me, no DLC available, no trunks. Poor me. Oh well, they'll fix that, too.

Yeah, I also didn't get any of the additional goodies, nor the 1.2 gb update, even though I did put in the code. Not like that matters much though.

Yeah, it took about an hour to get that DL going for some reason. You'll get it, in any case. Weird thing with the trunks and such, though.

Yep.

Although I'm tempted to ditch GOG altogether here, because of their stupidity regarding release.
I don't think this release date delay is necessarily all on GOG tbh. Larian wanted Galaxy in place to make patching easier and posted that comment yesterday that "we expected Galaxy support at launch". Now GOG are offering the download to backers but not selling to non-backers until Galaxy launches (and not really clarifying matters).

Megathread on GOG about it: http://af.gog.com/forum/general/coming_soon_divinity_original_sin/page40?as=1649904300

tl;dr: - Some tinfoil hatters speculate that there is a Steam exclusive period or regional pricing issue
- Some blame Larian wanting Galaxy to make patching easier, after their earlier comments on the DC difficulties
- Some blame GOG wanting DOS as a big name game to launch Galaxy for multiplayer functions

I don't really see why GOG would voluntarily miss out on all these day 1 sales, but I guess we'll get a carefully worded statement at some point talking about how well D:OS and GOG Galaxy will work together in future.

One could get the impression that GOG doesn't particularly like Larian, considering the "problematic" patching situation of Dragon Commander on GOG and now this.
I'm a bit surprised that something like that can happen at all - I mean, don't you sign contracts about such stuff?
So did Larian know about a possible delay or did GOG screw them there? If it's the latter, we should be back at the contracts part, right?

Raw, unfinitroned news:

GOG said:
We'd like to make sure that our reasons for delaying Divinity: Original Sin are clear. The game has multiplayer features to play with friends online. In the future, we will be supporting such multiplayer features in new games thanks to GOG Galaxy (and bringing you more games along the way), however, as of today we do not provide multiplayer backend and components for games.

We did not believe it would be fair to offer you a version of Divinity: Original Sin that does not include these features, we also, without a doubt, underestimated the number of people who would want to play the game regardless. We wanted to make sure that the GOG.com community gets the complete Divinity: Original Sin experience.
Guys, your voices have been heard. We have to admit that we should have done it differently!

We will release Divinity: Original Sin in the next few days. We are working on the Windows version of the game right now and waiting for the Mac build to arrive. The version of Divinity: Original Sin that will be available for sale, will be complete content-wise, and will allow for local/direct-IP multiplayer, but will come without the online matchmaking component and game auto-updating, which will be introduced as a later updates.

Please bear with us and sorry for not providing full explanation in the first place[\quote]
