Yes, they fucked up. But the devs are encouraging users to get refunded in the Steam forums.

I can't even the angry, the boomer charm is off the charts. I did request a refund though, five bucks are five bucks.

Well went and bought it, whatever Illfraud you got your taxes.

Changes don't seem that big so far but I'll need to dig into spell differences. Definitely not seeing how they think they achieved their goals so far tho, other than popular spells being nerfed.

Also is it me or is the EA cavemen nation absolute garbage?

Anyway seems like they provide servers now so maybe we don't even have to use third party servers.

That lists proves my point though.

List all games on Steam which are DRM-free, that meaning games which can be launched without the use of the Steam client.

And here the very first entry as an example:

https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/7th_Legion

DRM-free after installation through Steam client (notes may include more details)

You know what's actually DRM-free? The game on GOG. No third-party client required to download or install or launch the game. If it forced GOG Galaxy on you to download and/or install the game, it would be the same as Steam. But it isn't, so it's DRM-free.

yeah but then again you can take the game files and copy paste to other computers and have them backed up without the need for steam software again.

also you need steam to buy it in the first place, so...

That's not the point though and I guess that list was created by Steam apologists who say that you can play (step 3) the game DRM-free. But when you ask about step 1 (downloading) and step 2 (installing), then they are suddenly err-ing and huffing.

Couldn't one buy games on their website at the very least or is that not a thing (anymore)? If it isn't, that would add one more step (0, I guess) that is DRM'ed then.

Im checking the changes and legitimately cant understand most of them. They nerfed popular spells but didnt change summon scaling despite new design philosophy? Weird

Installing and using Steam.
The horror.
One can only imagine.

:nocountryforshitposters:

Either way, I agree it's a bit of a shame they don't have a "directly from dev" option available.
That's sometimes a nice way to get devs a few extra bucks, independent of client woes.

But then again, having and maintaining that costs time and effort and some devs just can't be arsed to do that for the minimal income it would yield.

I guess Workshop integration is also a big plus for many users.

The new UI is great by the way. The ability to position and give orders to all units from the same screen is nice and will prevent some headaches during complex battle setups.

Steam itself is not DRM. Steamworks is DRM.

No, Steam itself also functions as DRM. You are forced to go through steam and verify that you have a legit version of the game in order to receive updates or install it on any other computers.

While that is lighter DRM than having to run steam every time you play the game, let's not pretend that is DRM free. If you have to install an entirely unrelated third party app in order to be able to play your game, then it is not DRM free.
