Yes, they fucked up. But the devs are encouraging users to get refunded in the Steam forums.
I can't even the angry, the boomer charm is off the charts. I did request a refund though, five bucks are five bucks.

Anyone else remember the 65-70 buckaroos for Dominions 2 some 20 years ago? With another price hike. Oh well, here we go.
Steam only. WTF?
Are they planning on ever releasing it properly somewhere so I can just download and install it?
Steam itself is DRM though which is a problem. Otherwise I, too, would have bought the games already.Steam only. WTF?

it was already stated in the thread that it's DRM-free on steam and will run from the desktop, wasn't it?
Distribution control is part of the very definition of DRM.Steam itself is not DRM. Steamworks is DRM.

List all games on Steam which are DRM-free, that meaning games which can be launched without the use of the Steam client.
DRM-free after installation through Steam client (notes may include more details)
yeah but then again you can take the game files and copy paste to other computers and have them backed up without the need for steam software again. You know what's actually DRM-free? The game on GOG. No third-party client required to download or install or launch the game. If it forced GOG Galaxy on you to download and/or install the game, it would be the same as Steam. But it isn't, so it's DRM-free.
That's not the point though and I guess that list was created by Steam apologists who say that you can play (step 3) the game DRM-free. But when you ask about step 1 (downloading) and step 2 (installing), then they are suddenly err-ing and huffing.yeah but then again you can take the game files and copy paste to other computers and have them backed up without the need for steam software again. You know what's actually DRM-free? also you need steam to buy it in the first place, so...

Couldn't one buy games on their website at the very least or is that not a thing (anymore)? If it isn't, that would add one more step (0, I guess) that is DRM'ed then.

You see all these people come on forums complaining before buying how it is the same game having no idea how much has changed. This is my favorite of the series by far.So how is it?
Installing and using Steam. You know what's actually DRM-free? The game on GOG. No third-party client required to download or install or launch the game. If it forced GOG Galaxy on you to download and/or install the game, it would be the same as Steam. But it isn't, so it's DRM-free.
I guess Workshop integration is also a big plus for many users. But then again, having and maintaining that costs time and effort and some devs just can't be arsed to do that for the minimal income it would yield.
Steam itself is not DRM. Steamworks is DRM.
