ER doesn't a quest compass or a journal. For example, Patches moving to the poison swamp castle is something extremely obvious and easy to figure out.

How?
You asking how to get him to move or how was it obvious?
If it's the former, I forgot. Just clear the questlines in Volcano Manor I think. If it's the latter, that was sarcasm. :P It wasn't obvious in any fucking way.

a good bit of this "analysis" is just based on the fact that the overarching story in every Souls game is exactly the same.
Correct. I haven't done any lore hunting of Elden Ring but I can already say with 99% certainty this is the case.

I pointed this out way back with Dark Souls 2-3 and it caused endless butthurt. People really want the story to be more complicated than it is. The details change, but the major themes are always similar:

-There is a great Power that grants strength/magic/immortality (dragon's blood, old blood, the first flame, the elden ring).
-The people who first use The Power become kings/gods and use it to build a prosperous and grand kingdom.
-The rulers become decadent and corrupt, the kingdom wanes as fights break out over The Power.
-Monsters appear and hasten the ruin of the kingdom.
-Someone realizes too late that The Power is also the source of the monsters/corruption (The old blood turns people into beasts, the first flame burns away humanity and makes you hollow/undead, the dragon's blood causes dragonrot, etc).
-All attempts to prevent the fall of the kingdom fail in tragic ways, creating a horrible land of misery and suffering.
-The hero appears from outside the Kingdom and amasses The Power for themselves, killing all the former gods, while fending off the corruption.
-The hero uses The Power to restore the kingdom or finish it for good. The end.

While GoT isn't a hallmark good literature or something I had hope that when they announced GRR Martin was writing for ER we will get something more coherrent rather than some vague ass outline we had for years but ER is just pretty much the same

Almost as if George "R.R." Martin's involvement in Elden Ring was limited to providing a list of names starting with the letters "G", "R", and "M", and perhaps contributing a few character concepts (e.g. Dung-Eater). :M

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.

I did appreciate the cryptic narrative in DS1 because for years I've railed against simplistic, childish, retarded stories in RPGs. But yeah, got tired of it somewhere around DS3.

FromSoft stories are just as simplistic and ordinary but it's all masked by the mystery and vagueness. So at least the naked stupidity of it all isn't beating you over the head like in, say, Larian games.

Fracturing reality is FS's "It's magic I don't have to explain shit". Works like a charm though.

G9 gushes like a girl over the new patch. Half way through the video I'm still not sure specifically why, but if he's saying From is heading in a new better direction with PVP for this patch I'll take him at his word.

This. People who play video games with walkthroughs should be mercilessly punished and mocked online, the same as people who played with trainers and cheat codes in the good old days. If google/fextralife is telling you exactly where to go, how many points to put in STR/DEX, which weapon to use for your "build" and where to get it, etc. etc. etc., then you might as well outsource your playthrough to a bot, and get every achievement and S+++ rank in NG+++++++ while lazily fingering your butthole.

I've played through DS remastered, DS3, Bloodporn and Elder Ning completely blind, and the very few times I cucked out because of ultra-obscure and autistic quest markers, I always regretted it, because it sucks all sense of accomplishment from your game, and also all these shitty guides make sure to spoil everything from the outset.

"Hello, this is the GaymeGuide to Leonard's questline in Dark Souls 3, where he send you to kill a Deathwraith, offers you some crack, offers to invade other players, then goes mad and kills Rosalina (Gwynevere's daughter who was definitely raped by Aldritch to produce edible children) after you kill Yhorm the Giant, leaving you with the choice to either restore her soul or transmog it into a spell, after you track him down in Anor Londo and kill him. Step 1: Meeting Leonard." *furious screaming from people with involuntarily fast reading skills like me*

G9 gushes like a girl over the new patch. Half way through the video I'm still not sure specifically why, but if he's saying From is heading in a new better direction with PVP for this patch I'll take him at his word.

Its a pretty divisive patch. Hand of Malenia being a true combo for the first to parts of the weapon art is utterly obnoxious. Fighting some over-levelled little shit in a Malenia cosplay is now as hard as fighting the real boss. Poise addicts have reacted to poise nerfs by running even more poise. I've dropped poise entirely from all my builds. Nobody knows which is the right approach yet. For me though, the most noticeable changes have been the true combo ashes of war and how absolutely terrifying fists are again. I'm mostly a low level invader so I'm used to running no poise and using spacing to whiff punish instead of trading.

Here's a patch 1.10 invasion. ER is still ER:

I like DS3 PvP better but ER is much more active.

Quests in ER aren't that obtuse, they kinda follow the same linear path you have to go through to progress in the game. It's the most accesible FS game after all.
In DS3, you had to go backwards and go back to the main bonfire at specific times which were never properly communicated to the player to progress a specific npc's quest.

Yeah that's me playing. I'm not the most skillful invader, still working a lot out. I made a lot of mistakes in that one but it was exciting so I clipped it.

Cheat codes were awesome and I will never forgive achievement hunting retards for effectively killing them.
Luckily, just plain old retards are bringing them back in the form of "accessibility options". Not as cool as typing in a secret code but, still pretty funny how things work out.

I've been trying RL90 +17. It seems like a good rune level. Your build has to be very focused compared to low level or meta but I've been winning a lot with my fire affinity STR build. Flame shrouding cracked tear + exalted flesh + good STR scaling, high base damage and 50 STR 2 handed. People just aren't expecting to get hit that hard and you see them panic when it happens:

Elden Ring might be the worst game I've played in the last five years. It's like playing Oblivion but the only thing you can do is killing every NPC in the game. Sadly, you spend even more time travelling in emptiness than in Oblivion.

For people who have never played a FS game, the combat might be appealing though. But if you have played anything between Demon Souls and DS3, it is the same.
