Yes. Companion with no jetpack = one that will never, ever be used in favor of all the others that don't constrain how you can travel.

outerworlds is even worse tho
Literally only this forum thinks so. The reviews from everyone else suggests Outer Worlds is a better game so it seems like the marketing departments got it right.

Also the primary reason Outer Worlds became seen as a disappointment is because its "From the makers of Fallout New Vegas" marketing produced unrealistically high expectations. Again, hyping a product that can't deliver is bad!

not sure if this should be considered a good or bad thing, but the NPCs have oblivion-esque conversations just saying nonsensical lines to each other.
e.g., male trader just said to female NPC
"Apparently they're still in Goliet"
and she followed it up with
"That's gotta be the craziest thing I ever heard!"

just sit in a bar at night to listen to how insane it sounds

think it might actually be worse than oblivion because it at least tried to sync up matching lines(?), they just respond randomly.

That is steep incline, Gothic 1&2 had completely ridiculous conversations like that aswell.
They were absolutely great in German, included some wonders of writing like "Es wird nichts so heiß gegessen wie es gekocht wird" and "Verlass dich auf jemanden, und du bist verlassen".

"Früher wäre das ganz anders gelaufen..."

Yes, those were great. Absolutely superior to what Bethesda did in Oblivion.
They were designed as "snippets" you would pickup from random babbles of strangers while you were on your business.

They were never meant to represent coherent conversations.

because nobody else even discusses it due to it immediately being forgotten
Again, for pretty much everyone outside this forum, Elex II never even happened in the first place.
and?
it's still better than the garbage that is outerworlds

not like we have to guess hard as to why the theme of outerworlds appealed heavily to game journos either

If just Jax had a jetpack, then his companions/accompanying NPCs would be constantly left behind and we would have Gamebryo-like instances of the player moving forward or upward whlle the NPCs are stuck at the bottom of a cliff and frantically run around trying to locate a way up. Giving everyone a jetpack was a logical design choice.

I wouldn't even notice a difference because the AI is so terrible.

fwiw, I suppose, caja seems slightly less retarded than the others because she only has a ranged attack. The melee attack causes the AI to melt and have no idea how to function properly.
She still runs right into melee range of anything attacking though. Seems tankier than the others, at least.

I've played all Fallouts except 76 (not hating it, just haven't played it), some of them for several times. I am fond of the legacy and lore, I even worked a bit on one of the biggest (sadly canceled) total conversion for F 2.

I daresay the Outerworlds' worst quality was the marketing scam. It was really not that much Fallouty-ish as it posed to be in the trailers, and hence the disgust and disapointment of many. Other than that I reckon it was not great, but doable FPS/RPG with some keen moments, somewhat vain in combat, sometimes sending love-letters to Fallouts mainly in the form of the architecture and the bizzare.

He'll leave you soon on his own, don't worry.

PS: I am on the same boat. Companions in E, E2 often make the combat into a joke. I'd say it's best to experience them for a very limited amount of time :D

kid should be a companion but instead of fighting he would loot bodies and pick up trash for you

Already starting to feel that I'm spreading myself too thin in the attributes. I'm trying to decide between Cunning and Intelligence for a dump stat, but will probably have to go with dumping Cunning since it seems you need Intelligence for jetpack upgrades, lockpicking, and gem socketing. Will probably go with Berserkers again for my first playthrough, so I have magic to consider too. Might have to get Cunning up to 30 at some point just for that Lone Wolf skill though. Rolling with companions isn't the way to go.

I managed to get performance to a decent level by reducing drawing distance. A bummer but what you gonna do. Now I intend to ELEX the night away.

Also, things I find hilarious:

1. This STILL has that Elex 1 bug where the jetpack starts at 75% fuel after loading the game for the first time after launch
2. Laffed when I heard a bird chirp sound recycled all the way from Gothic 1
3. I accidentally land right next to an angry mountain troll, start running around it like a tard, suddenly Jaxson (yuge missed opportunity in not naming him like that) interrupts with a dialogue - 'Father, I think I've had enough'

Also, things I find hilarious:

I can't help but laugh out loud every time Jax shouts "Fuck!" when he runs out of jetpack fuel midflight. Don't know it'll be as funny in German VO, but it's hilarious in English every time. Doubt that was the intention, but I enjoy it.

EDIT:

Found the detailed character values! Hitting R in the abilities screen. Boys, this ELEX has a numerical representation for HP.
