- You can't place the base where you want anymore, you can only select one out of 6 pre-set places on Earth
- You can't control more than 6 soldiers in a mission and it's 4 by default so you need to do research to get to 6
- There are CINEMATIC in-engine cutscenes for your soldier actions (like bashing out the door) meaning that you will now have to sit and watch for a minute something that is done in 1 second in normal strategy games
- There's a plot so some maps are plot-based meaning they are non-random and have cutscenes and linear scripts in them
- You can now move modules of your base around - the base is a minigame now. By putting similar modules in a single line they will work more effectively. And you can move those modules around at any time so you can never make a mistake.
- For presentation they used gamepads connected to a PC and the previewer dude says the game plays great with a gamepad which means it will play like shit with kb+mouse:
to aim at some enemy the dude had to press the trigger and the camera jumped to the popamole OTS view. And to control the camera and move the soldier he had to use analog sticks.

Where's your Sid Meier now

you forgot to add that you can only have one base and that air combat uses consumable buffs now, skyway.

The only publisher I trust will release a good X-COM clone is Paradox. Hopefully they wont disappoint.

Mostly some tidbits about the air combat, with an air combat interface screen.

Confirmed feature - air combat will have limited use "powerups".

Is it just me praying for a Wii U version's release? It'd be nothing but PERFECT to play with the Wii U gamepad!!!! Both for the base and terrain squad-control!!!! ...may my prayers be heard!!!

If I could pay five times the cost of the game to begin playing right now, I certainly would.

I really can't wait for this. This has always been a landmark game for me, and one I return to more often than any other. I can't wait for this update!

I sometimes snigger at people who impose a blackout on their consumption of game information, but in this case I don't think I want to know anymore. I'm already convinced I want this immediately. The rest will just be a great surprise.

Does this stand a chance of reviving the 4X genre? I miss most turn based: Moo, MoM and X-com like games... I would have thrown Space Sims in their but Evochron Mercenary is scratching the Elite/Privateer itch wonderfully...

I don't want to sound overly dramatic but it's almost like a Golden Age of Gaming renaissance started some time ago with the return of 2D games ushered in by Bionic Commando Rearmed. At least for me. Can't have anything to do with playing Tribes Ascend, and Diablo 3 (which totally harkens back to Diablo 1 for me) a lot recently.

This is easily my most-anticipated game of the year.

Can't wait for it. The proper turn-base strategy/rpg is something rear on iPhone and something that doesn't exsist at all on PS3. Would love to have it there too

I am unreasonably excited for this game. I played the original a bit when it was initially released, but this looks bat-shit unbelievable.

This game looks like it's gonna be so freakin awesome. Im glad Firaxis was willing to buck the industry trend and develop a game more niche than another FPS or something. Hopefully this does well and we can see games in a similar vein down the line.

Ah, the only consolation is that all those are clearly written by the youths that'll inherit the earth long after we'r . . . Ah, most of them are in their late 30s, you say?

Oh dear.

Hurr durr. Xcom is a 4X game. The fourth X is in the title.

I would have to see this one in action to pass definitive judgment, but as it is... it looks pretty shite. Like an arcade game. The simplictic elegance of a top-down radar-like look is too much for the next gen to handle.
Heck, it doesn't even seem to have any sort of range indicator
