Bah, it'll probably be some guitar riff bullshit.

Overanalyzing the shit out of that picture, it seems weapon ranges are totally out of the picture right now - no range indicator, no range controls, and most likely no possibility to bring in multiple aircraft to the fight, which all sucks niggercock.

On the other hand, xcom dogfight desperately needed some changes. Consumable powerups could in theory liven things up, although in reality it would probably reinforce the arcade look of the minigame for me.

It was good for what it was.

Naive, pure, innocent . . . and mildly entertaining, despite the uselessness of the chaingun armament.

- You can't place the base where you want anymore, you can only select one out of 6 pre-set places on Earth
Okay, in all honesty, THIS is not that important. It is not as if it made any real difference where in a given country you stuck your base. Does anything REALLY change if you happen to stick your base in Turkmenistan rather than Kazakhstan? Not really? It's still in the same general spot? Yeah, that's what I thought.

I don't think they can fuck a combat field any more after turning it into a popamole cover shooter.

Gears of War meets VATS...

...Sounds like a day 1 purchase :smug:

Hey, don't diss the chaingun armament. I once shot down an entire battleship using only a single regular plane armed with nothing but two chainguns. Thing for some reason couldn't hit me at chaingun range. I thought that plane was totally a goner, too. Took all but like a dozen rounds of ammo. Welcome to Earth, motherfuckers.

Well, it does look pretty enough.

They've disguised the pig well.

Is that . . . a blue filter? :retarded:

At least the cinematic shots aren't slow-mo.

Destructibility seems very limited.

It looks nothing like the old Enemy Unknown. Cover, enemies taking tons of damage, no fires or much destruction of any kind and a small area in which the battle is being fought. Could've been any tactical game if they hadn't given the enemies names like Mutons and so on.

Not saying the game can't be cool. I'm highly doubting it from what I've seen so far tho. And it defenitely does not even come close to the instant classic status that Enemy Unknown immidiately invoked.

I really hope Xenonauts will be neat. :(

I'm not really expecting X-COM levels of greatness here. For that, we have Xenonauts.

However, the game still looks to be fun, so for me, it's just a little something extra on top of Xenonauts :)

It looks... fucking awful :(

Is Sid Meiier's involvement in this the only thing that's holding back the outrage?

I don't know how they managed it, but I'd rather play that FPS thingy than... whatever it is they're trying to pass of as Xcom.

Looks like it isn't nearly as deadly as X-Com... it might be good, it might even be helped by the fact that the people at Firaxis like X-Com enough to put in the work and take the risks to make a good game for the franchise, but it seems like it isn't an extension of core X-Com gameplay (which is high-tension horror squad tactics).

That intimidate reaction thing the Muton did in the multiplayer video also seems like one of those "card game" kinda touches that came into game design after MtG exploded - I always felt that Rube Goldberg ruleset stuff was subtly taking something away from games but I dunno it's pretty popular I guess.
