If you can find a DM who will do that that's up to you. Guarantee Holic isn't.

So here's a thing you can do:

OctaviaSurprise.jpg

Heard Surprise Spells were good so thought I'd give it a try. First one I've ever cast. Not bad for a Third Level Spell. Using Belt from Rushlight and Rod of Flaming Vengeance.

Finished off the Rogue with her bow. Note: she's a full caster, that's not a crit, Linzi isn't singing, and Amiri Freebooter isn't helping either.

Inquisitors that can have more than 1 judgement active cannot go triple (lvl 16 or higher) on their last judgement of the day despite clearly being able to in the rules.

Do you like Jaethal? Well... bad luck.

I'm old school so there is nothing that more iconic and joyful than seeing the aftermath of a perfect fireball. It's like bowling a strike or hitting a hole in one or something.

Anyone have issues with their keyboard sometimes not registering keystrokes when Kingmaker is running? I've been having this problem lately and it's been pretty annoying

How's the turn based combat? Does it make larger fights less of a clusterfuck, and combat in general less of a hidden object puzzle?
Also is the game still buggy in general, or has it mostly been patched up? And what are the most-have mods for me to restart my adventure?

TB is great and de-fucks the clusters. Big fights against trivial things you just go full RTS mode. I enjoyed it much more, felt 97% more tactical. On my recent playthrough I didn't have a single bug (that I noticed anyway). Only thing though, the game slows down after a while. Loading takes longer and longer.

Have to keep your saves under control and take shit with you when you leave areas (then immediately drop it as necessary) to keep the load times to a minimum.

You can use the auto pause and V button to control RTwP as finely as you like but evidently few bother so TB is good for them. Also helps you get a feel for the mechanics.

It’s quite good. You can switch between both modes and the game doesn’t seem to be stilted too far in balance towards one or the other. This is convenient when you just want to lawnmower through some easier encounters and then play some others fully turn based and wiggle your mouse pixel by pixel for the perfect fireball and manipulate turn order and crap.

Bugs are here and there but they haven’t diminished my enjoyment at all. Worst instance was a stuck debuff on one of the twins due to their quirky mechanics and I’m not exaggerating when I fixed it in a couple clicks and maybe 5-7 minutes of grabbing the bag of tricks mod. Seems like a rare state based on my googling. There are a couple other things, like occasionally if a million summons appear on a turn in turn based I have to toggle into real tim and back to get it unhitched. Some rules interpretations are off here and there but I adapt and don’t even notice.

Anyways, chances are if you are here I think you will like it

Turn-based is much better. Some fights with tons of weak enemies can become a slog with it, but you can always switch to realtime for those.

There's a mod on Nexus (Cleaner, I think it's called?) which adds a clean-up button and thus lets you clear out areas once you're done. Good for avoiding this issue.

I have absolutely no idea. Any programmer here to enlighten us? But it's not a Kingmaker-exclusive problem for sure.

Has anyone heard of blue screen on start issues? This is the only game giving me trouble, and it wasn't happening last year. I've tried manual install and galaxy install, but I get the blue screen every time, and the logs made no fucking sense. Something about an unsupported shader. I run it unmodded, just portraits in the appdata.

So, I discontinued my first take on an Eldritch Knight. It was a STR-based Thassilonian Illusionist, and the plan was that he would focus on Greataxes, so that I could eventually play a 2-handed STR build.

The playthrough was going more than OK, but the build had a couple of serious problems. The first problem was that Thassilonian Illusionist's opposition schools are Conjuration and Transmutation. While I didn't mind the lack of Conjuration much (just a little bit), the lack of Transmutation buffs was kinda too much. At the point where I entered the Dwarven Ruins I thought to myself "if I hadn't been such a retard, I would have had Haste available right now". So that's when I cut the playthrough short.

The second problem was that I was unarmored STR instead of unarmored DEX. On Hard at least, opponents would sense the MC's lack of AC and would often go after him, for example when he would line up to to hit with a Color Spray. This was a repeating pattern (wolves did it, worgs did it, the Tuskgutter did it), and Mirror Images or not it was too risky and the MC often got hit.

So I have restarted with a take 2 of the build. Now it is a DEX based Thassilonian Abjurationist Eldritch Knight. I am going to focus on Rapiers instead of Dueling Swords, so that I save a couple of feats at the start. Abjuration's opposition schools are Evocation and Necromancy, which is fine by me. I am still going to focus heavily on Illusion, but my specialization slots are going to be used to free up some of Harrim's spell slots.

Why don’t you try something light if you’re determined to fight two-weapon?

You know that you’re not a Sword Saint right? One of the benefits of having Martial Proficiency is being able to use the best available weapon.

EK DEX with no Sneaks and no Bard and Harrim on the xBow is going to be unspectacular on the damage side.

I wasn't so much determined to fight 2-handed, I was mostly interested in finally using the Greataxes (as I do not use Amiri much in my playthroughs, and Reggie takes Scimitars). But what did you have in mind?

EDIT: Oh, I saw the edit. It is going to be single-handed, not 2-weapon fighting. Rapiers will work well with the build I think. They are all agile until Ch6 (so I can postpone Fencing Grace until late game), and they are crit-focused, which may be exciting to use with EK's Spell Critical.

Meh MI and Blur can make anyone a tank.
