No, you misunderstand. It's not just that D&D 5e is shit in itself, it's that Forgotten Realms in 5e is shit, and that has nothing to do with systemics or mechanics.
How do you mean 'Forgotten Realms in 5e is shit' ?
I'm getting the feeling that your exposure to Forgotten Realms is pre-4e, probably mostly from Baldur's Gate and associated games like Neverwinter Nights.

Let me tell you this: Everything you loved is ruined, nothing remains, elves are now sexually androgynous, and tieflings run around the streets like it's normal (and they all look about the same, which is to say like actual, literal demons).

Nothing you love remains.
All is lost.

well it's kinda the point, so your players can play wtf they want
Players aren't supposed to be able to be whatever they want. To reinforce this point, I'm thinking about running a Kingmaker game where everyone is forced to be a Ratling. No ifs or buts.
I want to play nazis vs bunga bunga land.
Honestly, it'd be fun to run a game where you'd be Chelaxians ("muh satanic nazis") doing an colonial expedition to the M'wangi Expanse (Bunga-bunga-land), except run it as an unironic civilizational type thing, where the M'wangi are genuine savages as in real-life Africa, and while the Chelaxians are devil-worshipping assholes as a whole, as a player you could run it as anything from the nice missionary trying to save their souls to the British gentleman trying to civilize them, all the way to full-on Belgian Congo.

Too bad it'd kick up a shitstorm these days, though.

it's not be what you want, but play what you want. if you're bored of particular setting you can change adventure and raid mwangians or whatever. all packed inside one world.

Forgotten Realms is the same.

and then you have your "specialized" settings: dark gothic in detail, fantasy apoc in detail, etc.

Pathfinder also has bikini amazons from Mars with blasters riding dinosaurs, although afaik they ruined it with sjwsm.

Landwhales riding dinosaurs into battle and dinosaurs are forced to ride landwhales at camp?
something about sex becoming a cultural concept or whatever

but here have a picture
the setting is called Distant Worlds

Haha, oh man, there's some really autistic dude in the /pfg/ thread on 4chan's /vg/ that has some really deep-seated PTSD from Skaven players shitposting in the Total War Warhammer/Vermintide general, and he's intensely triggered by ratfolk or people favoring them. I had no idea some people felt this strongly or was so screechy over something so unrelated and so small.

>Imho most of Paizo's work on Pathfinder is really, really close in general level of retarded-ness

I want game in Arabian Nights on Crack settings. Or BUNGA BUNGA LAND. Heck CONAN VS MAGIC ROBOT IN SPACE would be fun.

You have this whole fantasy kitchen sink and you make 2 games with medieval Europe theme.

I'm pretty sure even the KKKonsensus agrees Kingmaker was too long.
Nah. It's around the Pitax Chapter and onwards where the fatigue hits. Which is due to the fact that the game felt rushed after the Pitax chapter.
Yeah, it's absurd to posit that people can play all the way through Baldur's Gate, all the way through Baldur's Gate II, and all the way through Throne of Bhaal without it becoming "tOo lOoOoOoNg", but would become fatigued by Kingmaker alone.
Even mods can't make up for the linear slogfest that is ToB. So yes, the majority of my games end up with the hell battle, and after that the character gets retired. Divinity is overrated.

The issue is never that a game is "too long". If your game becomes too long, it's because you've done something wrong and you can't keep it interesting, such as in the case of Pitax and then the House at the End of Time. Kingmaker was simply unfinished on release, and the end of the game was marred in such a way that it couldn't be easily fixed - Pitax being stale and the House being shit aren't exactly bugs.

Wrath of the Righteous is only going to be 2/3 as big as Kingmaker. That's a massive reduction in size and playtime. Along with claims of impending "quality of lyfe" changes, the red flags are piling up.
Throne of Bhaal becomes "too long" after a couple hours

Just to follow the whole thread:

I think while Luckmanns position is valid I do not see it as a "Red Flag".

The reason being that one, they will have gotten a lot of feedback on this due to Kingmakers "issues" on the pacing and secondly while being shorter can mean that they stomp out complexity or dumbing down for the short attention spans of todays games but it could also mean just a much more polished experience with less filler content and more content relegated to the different paths.

I guess pessimism is understandable for CRPG fans but i remain optimistic when it comes to Owlcat in that regard.
