Double what? We played the same game? Because Caroc doesn't find peace either way. She says all that time and she didn't feel anything and that it was unsatisfying.
Spoilers for the Devil's ending slides :

she actually does find peace in the end if you kill Harmke. Her bloodlust abades and she lets herself go after feeling travelling to the ocean and feeling the waves for the first time.

I was looking at old character builds people had posted and realized that perception used to give a deflection bonus instead of an accuracy boost. How significant was that change?

Not very; you can still get a ton of deflection on your tank and the base accuracy requirements were never increased. It made the game slightly easier imho.

So its basically a dps characters dialogue stat when they don't want to act like a thug - got it.

3.05 patch is now live on Steam (GoG, and Mac stores will be early next week.) This is a baby patch, just 2 changes (listed below.) I cannot confirm/deny this will be our last patch. We will still be checking in on the forums and making sure nothing serious comes up.

Only one fix:

  • Stalwart auto-save no longer jumbles up creatures stats
Only one change:

  • Dropped The Unlabored Blade 'Firebug' proc from 10% to 3%

Monk's p. fun. Probably the class with the best selection of abilities. Also good starting bonus in every stat that scales with level, tanky, deals good damage, has good CC. fluff-wise is p. badass and fits well for the PC role.

Chanters not as much, but they have cool flavor.

Chanters are a brilliant design in a party-based game being basically an evolution of Pathfinder's changes to the D&D bard, and I don't mind them being passive at all since when you have six characters you seldom want to have them all require micro constantly. I just don't think of them as "fun" in the sense of including many interesting choices and active gameplay.

Monks... I dunno mang. They seem to build in pretty much the same way, the off-kilter "ranged hitter" monk being the exception?

it depends, at the very least you have the choice between micro-heavy spends-every-wound vs autoattack stays-at-10-wounds style.

There used to be some off-kilt builds before like stacking lots of lashes or usain bolt monk.

Active gameplay, definitely not. But in terms of building chants, and choosing invocations they're one of, if not the, most diverse class in the game. You can make a pure supporter out of your Chanter by stacking all of the heals and passive regen boost. You can do the polar opposite by making him a complete AoE degen tank with the Dragon Song as a Fire Godlike. You can try giving him the reload song (and the move speed) to make your entire party into an Aumaua firing squad that can't be touched. You can go with Secrets of Rime talent for the cold damage boost, and choose all of the Cold songs and invocations for a mix of damage, and debuffs. Throw on the White Crest Armor and Helm and you can fill out the Ice theme and role play yourself to death. You can go with the classic Summoner build. Choose all of the CC songs and make him your debilitator. Mix and match, do as you please.

Chanters definitely don't have a lack of interesting choices in terms of building. Once you're in combat though, you're correct, they mostly play themselves.

Played through the game with a monk, was ok-ish, but there are more fun classes.

Probably better suited for NPCs, especially with the AI scripts.

I ironically found most fun to be paladins when I thought I would find them very boring. Probably has to do with their shotgun-buff nature which I didn't expect, doing high damage at the start of combat and buffing yourself/party then going up close to hold position and soak damage while using exhortations as they are needed, deprive the unworthy also makes some of the toughest enemies much more easier to deal with. Especialy darcozzi retaliate build and shieldbearer but Pallegina is also very good for that role. I tried a bleakwalker critter with two-handed too but I couldn't reach 300+ crits some people seemed to achieve, no idea where I went wrong with it. Seemed like a one trick pony and got bored with it towards end of the game.

My main problem with Paladins is party member ones don't get bonus from dispositions which I think is fairly crucial, their entire staying capability comes from their out the ass defensive stats with maxed out faith & conviction. Pallagina barely makes it due her armour and godlike abilities both giving her defensive bonuses and her flames of devotion buff being ungodly strong. I guess moon godlike shieldbearer could work but then again moon godlike works with everything. Fire godlike darcozzi retaliate build could work as well as they don't need as high deflection. It's funny really, player character Paladin is tougher than fighter due faith & conviction but hired Paladins are weaker than fighter.

A party of six chanters is pretty hilarious. They'll sing everyone to death without you having to do anything much. Vogon poetry. Combine with Combusting Wounds from an item for extra hilarity.

Most PoE patches are just a few MB too. All 3.0.1, 3.0.2 and 3.0.3 and 3.0.4 are barely over 200 MB in total for instance.

iirc they get them now, but it scales with level instead.

What are your goals with difficulty curve? Do you expect players to complete main questline with minimal effort and look for challenge in side activities and DLC? Is Pillars of Eternity Path of the Damned difficulty level supposed to make main questline a challenge even for completionist player?

The critical path in PoE is not meant to be particularly challenging outside of a few key encounters. Side content is supposed to be more challenging in general. Even among completionists, there’s wide variation in system mastery and patience (the latter of which is vital for several of the different challenge playthroughs). PotD is supposed to be more challenging (and require more system mastery) than Hard, but that’s all relative to the individual player.
