Mech Armada, post-apocalyptic mech vs. monsters turn-based tactics, roguelike, deckbuilding thing.

The world as we knew it ended when the Swarm came. Hordes of terrifying creatures out of our worst nightmares ravaged the Earth, destroying every living thing in sight.

We few survivors fled underground, desperately searching for the tech and resources to survive - and fight back. To battle the monsters we created an armada of war machines called Mechs.

Thanks to ground-breaking replicator tech these Mechs could be generated almost instantly in the battlefield, turning the tide of what seemed to be an unwinnable war. As we pushed back, we used every resource to power our way forward to destroy the Swarm.

Mech Armada puts you in command of a team of custom-built Mechs. Push your strategic skills to the limit in this fresh combination of turn-based tactics, roguelikes and deckbuilding, as you save what's left of the Earth from the Swarm.

You'll need to plan carefully if you want to overpower the invading Swarm in a series of small tactical battles. Upgrade and build your deck of available Mechs, manage your resources and leverage your territory wisely. Get it wrong and it's game over. Start again with a whole new experience as monsters, maps, resources and rewards are all randomly generated.

bluerun_opt.gif

Key Features
  • Turn-Based combat: You can move into position and attack with each of your mechs, in any order. Then it's the Swarm's turn...
  • Design your own mech: With 70+ available Mech parts, you can create thousands of unique combinations. Each part has its own strengths and weaknesses, giving you an enormous range of possibilities.
  • Deep strategic combat: There are no perfect solutions. Create your own strategy by cleverly making the most out of your resources and the situation.
  • Procedurally generated: All the gameplay elements (monsters, maps, resources and rewards) are randomly combined and balanced ensuring no two battles are the same.
  • Rogue-like campaign: Death means game over. Try again with an entirely new run, with new random parts and encounters. You'll have to make do with what you get!
  • Environment variety: From the outskirts of destroyed cities, to desert wastelands, the battle for survival rages on.
  • Epic bosses: They're massive, ugly and ridiculously tough. Are you up to the task?
  • Auto-save: Never worry about saving again. Leave your game at any point and return exactly where you left off.

Ashwalkers: You have a party of four in search of some "Dome" in an Apocalyptic world full of Ash plains and move forward along a predetermined linear path. You have to make "Strategy", "Combat", "Diplomacy" or "Stealth" decisions with respective C&C. You need to scavenge for resources (which costs Energy) and set up Camp when you run out of Energy while balancing your Food/Warmth intake, and also manage party "Hope". While camping chars can Rest, Guard, Explore or Talk for different Boni. There's random events underway that can end in various ways including a fight. I wasn't exactly impressed (don't like that everything is grey, don't like how linear it is, you can literally just click in front of you most of the time, didn't like the characters and the C&C seemed kinda forced) and the Demo was brief.

The Last Stand: Aftermath
: A Top-down Zombie Shooter with Survival elements about scavenging and shit. There seems to be a (retch) Roguelike element to it. If one character dies you start over with another "Infected Volunteer" going on a run. They each have a limited time to survive as the Infection spreads through their body and causes Mutations (it devours your health bar slowly and every bit of it unlocks a new Mutation that gives you different combat advantages, see the purple bit in the Screen below). You can find Antidotes that stop this process for a while, but they are rare. You have to scavenge for fuel to be able to continue on the travel map (like FTL and similar) and get to scavenge items that heal your health or stamina and can craft or repair weapons into better things (discovering recipes while doing so). You get to keep your "Knowledge" from gathered magazines, you get to keep "Supplies" you find on the way that will improve the chances of follow-up characters and spent Knowledge Points improving things like Damage and other Skills from character to character. Performance is pretty bad. It's okay, but not especially amazing.

The Last Shot
: You play as an apathetic Mechanic in a vaguely Eastern European Dystopian Steampunk world (the Devs seem to be Russian) with a war going on in the background. It's a Puzzle Jump&Run where you have to repair doors and machines, clear rubble, solve small quests for people like freeing them or restoring energy, get keys as reward to open specific doors or chests, climb a lot of ladders, use a lot of levers and solve puzzles.

Scarlet Hood and the Wicked Wood
: Starts a bit like a lame VN with a Blonde lead singer named Scarlet that wants to become a star. She promptly leaves the real world behind to never see any of the kinda retarded characters again by being "Wizard of Oz'd" into a magic world where she becomes a Witch and might bring the End of the world. It's a Controller-friendly Adventure where you can move left and right and interact with stuff, pick up items or talk to people. She quickly finds out that she can apparently Groundhog Day through bad outcomes and there's a battle system (HP/energy) you need to find Gold coins to buy support items for, but it ain't in the Demo yet. Most of the puzzles so far seem to be about recognizing the solution in background art. It's kinda funny and I didn't think I would, but I liked it. Seems to be from a South Korean dev that made Horror games and a party-based TB Dungeon Crawler before: https://www.devespressogames.com/games

Nine Noir Lives: You play as Private Detective Cuddles of Furrington and have to solve a big Mob Murder case. Adventure Verbs are Inspect/Use and Lick, there's Hotspot highlighting. Eh.

Foregone: (As in Foregone Conclusion) is a Fast-paced "Run and gun" Platformer where you plays as an "Elite Soldier" and try to prevent the End of the world. You also have Skills and Equipment with DPS values that you can Upgrade at the Blacksmith or get better loot from enemies. There's also a lot of different melee and ranged weapons for different play styles. You get to unlock teleporters in different parts of the levels, with which you can teleport back to base to Upgrade your Skills and Weapons. If you die you respawn at the beginning of the level with all your Gold and Gems (you need for Upgrades of Weapons/Skills) lost and the enemies respawn. You either get to lose half of it and go back right where you left off or have to fight your way back. All doors you opened and switches you used remain activated though, so you can skip entire sections. Demo ends right after a somewhat challenging boss. It's fun enough and I liked it.

Pronty: Fishy Adventure: A Taiwanese Indie Platformer taking place underwater. You have a robotic swordfish you can use as a weapon against enemies like a flying javelin/spear attack. You get various Upgrades on the way. Maybe alright for children. Very Cartoony, reminiscent of Finding Nemo. The Demo is really fucking long, like 2-3 hours with various areas and two bosses that pose a challenge.

Played a bunch of demo too.

Unlike Dexter, I freaking digged Ashwalkers. The short segment is familiar and been there done that of course but god damn the presentation and atmosphere are mesmerizing. D1P for me. I'm just too easily defeated by aesthetic :negative:

The Last Stand: Aftermath reminds me of Ubisoft's ZombiU where you can also get killed and play as another character. Fairly polished with high production value, this will probably be a mainstream hit.

Beacon Pines is probably not for most codexers, but I adore Night in the Woods, and this game feels like NITW but focuses on the mystery more. Feel the most polished out of everything I've tried and it's certainly charming if you're into it. There's a mechanic where you collect charm that's tied with a keyword, and you can alter an event in the story with these charms to get a different outcome, not sure how deep this can go though. Since I'm once again defeated by the charm, there goes my 18 bucks to the Kickstarter.

Timberborn is... weird. It's a base building game featuring beavers and it seems like your goal is to build a big ass dam. Not much experience in the genre as I only play Anno 1800, but I like the vertical building and assigning beavers to harvest and collect stuffs just like good ol' RTS games. Keeping an eye on this.

Expedition Zero is a horror/survival game that doesn't feel that much different from, Someday You'll Return for example. Truly alpha as UI isn't complete. Got spooked after going into a burrow and saw a dude just appearing in front of me, instant uninstall. Note to self: never play any horror game at 2am ever again.

Almighty Kill Your Gods: it's a looter slasher and I don't get it.

The Longest Road on Earth is a visual novel that has no dialogue so it has even less gameplay than usual visual novel. Not much to say as the demo consists of montage about different characters going on their live with accompanying acoustic songs. This is the type of game that I like but I don't quite get it, yet.

ANVIL: I originally installed this because it was one of the few decent looking games in the Multiplayer section and wanted to try CoOp. Apparently this is not possible in the Demo as it's unavailable. Korean Unreal-based ARPG Alien Shooter with Randomized Areas, Loot, Mobs and Bosses. You can play three different characters right away in the Demo (Melee/Ranged/Magic) and some can be unlocked. Due to its nature it doesn't have amazing map design, just repetitive arenas. The combat, Skills and constant Upgrades feel really good and rewarding though. The idea is apparently to complete 5 Stages as fast as possible and beat the boss at the end of each to "win" (there are also "boss stages" with only bosses on them, 3&5 in the first Galaxy). The problem is you don't heal or gain HP even between planets/levels and health is hard to come by, the more time you spend exploring the tougher the enemies get and once you're dead you have to start again. With the right Relics (from chests paid with currency dropped from dead Mobs) and Power Armor Skill Upgrade (a black Obelisk every new planet) synergy it becomes easy enough. Kind of retarded but addictive nonetheless. I managed to beat the first (Cherney Galaxy) with Elsa No.4. Galaxy 2 (Symphony Galaxy) seems to be harder and has 7 Stages.

Minute of Islands: Beautifully Drawn German Puzzle Platformer about a little girl mechanic called Mo stuck in the land of Giants. Something went wrong and the air purifiers went down, now she has to repair it. Cutesy and a bit morbid. Has some environmental undertones. There's memories to collect from before "The Exodus".

Cats and the Other Lives: Pixel Adventure by the developer of Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones. You play as a fat old orange cat that overhears conversations and apparently has heightened senses and can recall past memories. A Catventure... if you will. There doesn't seem to be much gameplay aside from following the prescribed path and listening to exposition while moving from room to room. There are a few prescribed tasks that you have to do to move the story along and the cat seems to be really good at listening. After doing that for a while I decided that I don't particularly care about the Mason family problems, whether that's the daughter Addy's speech impediment and issues with her mother, Liam's acting career, self-esteem issues and drinking problem, Shannon's domineering attitude and her husband, who is a "Dr.", Grandma Lorraine's issues with dementia or the troubled marriage of some elder couple. The Laser pointer scene was funny though. Also apparently cats are scared of Cucumber and you can explore this phenomenon on YouTube, so it's not like I didn't learn anything.

Gladiator Guild Manager Prologue: Interesting, but seemed kinda Easy and simplistic (put together in Unity)? You basically just buy Gladiators/Items and choose fights and team-ups and they fight and Level up all by themselves. Managed to beat it right away within the 45 Days without knowing anything about it beforehand. Fire mage seems OP against other ranged and especially Priests. One fireball can take out the entire enemy team.

The Last Spell: Tried it briefly, but too much to pay attention to and manage from the get-go and not a fan of the building element. Maybe once it's out of Pre-Alpha and there's more to it.

Summary for me:
Wishlisted: Slender Threads, Scarlet Hood, Foregone
Tentatively Wishlisted: Retro Machine, ANVIL, Narita Boy
Shit Sucks: TASOMACHI, Trail of Ayash, Ashwalkers

I've been playing some demos from the festival. I'm going to shill some that I enjoyed.

Loop Hero is great alright. People here have already mentioned that so I was ought to try it.

Intravenous feels like a pure incline. It's a mix between Hotline Miami and Splinter Cell. Stealth is based on lighting, you can hide bodies, use silenced weapons and change movement speed with a mouse wheel.

Dap is a really weird game, but it feels really polished. Visuals and sound are great.

Bloodroots feels like another take on Hotline Miami. You can use anything to kill your enemies, including carrots and frozen fish. Overall gameplay is fluid and it looks really stylish.

The rest I enjoyed less, but they deserve honorable mentions.

Minute of Islands is beautifully drawed, but with little to no gameplay. Some of the visuals have a strong Giger vibe.

Dorfromantik is a game similar to Islanders. You build stuff, but it's not a city builder. More like a relaxing puzzle game.

Cats and the Other Lives is a point and click adventure where you play a cat. Not much of a gameplay, but the writing is great.

Loveland is a detective game with PS1 visuals. It remains to be seen whether it will actually be entertaining, but it looks interesting.

Retro Machina feels like Bastion, but with more puzzle-oriented gameplay. It's kind of simplistic I guess, but it has its charm.

it is interesting but enemies seem to show a lot of unfair behavior
- see you and start shooting off the screen
- see you from afar even when hid in shadows
- enter room and immediately center on you, im talking about instant over 90 degrees spin in your direction while you wonder if you can start shooting or will hit a wall. again
- see you perfectly over obstacles
- when alerted can somehow run towards your direction even if you make nice retreat. Like shoot enemy with silenced weapon as far as you can see and crouch jump over few walls

I guess CP2077 refunds are working. A historical low on the GOTY:

Also 90% on this:

Another historical low is KC Collection (a note of warning, since the bundle is "substractable" it may be cheaper to buy the Royal Edition first and then the Collection (heavily depends on the region)):

As always, you can check discount via these sites:

Seems like price glitches.

Mafia Definitive is 75% off:

https://www.humblebundle.com/store/mafia-definitive-edition

And 80% off on Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition (and another 15% on top if you have Humble Choice subscription):

https://www.humblebundle.com/store/borderlands-3-ultimate-edition

Feels like someone at Humble is going to be fired tomorrow.

Wasn't the Humble store that cancelled some keys and refunded the money in the past when they realized they had put higher discounts than they should or I am misremembering?

I don't know, but it's possible that they will revoke the keys.
