What do we think of concurrent players at launch day?

My guess is in the region of 250k.

Launch Day? Hmmm... Thats a big download and no preload as far as I am aware. I will say 300k Launch Day with a peak of 700k sometime during the week. How about you Abu? Do you think the numbers will rise from your throughts of 250k post launch day?
I think it will peak at maybe 400-500k during the weekend.

DOS2 EE had a peak of 90k players, but I think the D&D IP alone will draw in players. DOS series might have done well for the genre, but it isn't really something your "average" (don't know a better word) gamer will play.

I think that people will be more willing to try out BG3. Both because turn-based games are more popular, pandering to all kids of groups/degenerates, nature of the IP (D&D being fairly popular), and more people playing games. They have also been quite active on social media, and there has been more buzz around the game compared to the DOS games.

Crusader Kings 3 peaked at ~100k, and it had similar hype around it and viral marketing.
Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, Sword Coast Legends, all the Enhanced Editions remakes, peaked under 10k players, so I am not sure how much the D&D branding is worth.

I'm guessing this does 140-180k, which is great numbers.

I dropped solasta before finishing it.
Solasta is all combat, basically no plot, and little item progression. The moment you get the key skills on all characters, you don't have much else to keep playing for.
This game has a plot, and you get items that can be build defining, from what we've seen so far. The Dark Urge showcase had a cape with "when you kill an enemy, become invisible" or some such on it, items like that will keep you playing even if the writing doesn't catch you.

There are based indie games such as Battle Brothers though. Too bad so few of them make the cut into something actually enjoyable.

I'm still surprised we didn't see any Battle Brothers clones yet. It's the best game I've played in the last decade or two, and it did extremely well for the budget it had. It's such a simple but extremely satisfying formula, and I don't know any other games that would scratch the same itch. Making a BB clone seems like free money, just waiting to be picked.

Volourn is a billion times more funny than this Drak guy. How dare you compare them
Volourn is a closeted Chiefs fan. His legend precedes him and I respect the old man. Btw I'm super excited for August 3rd. I have a special video planned.
Can you provide a link to your videos?
I'm never going to resort to shilling my channel. The videos are scattered all around here. You'll find them.

This will be true only if the combat is interesting and well balanced. Deadfire had shitload of build defining items, but what did it matter when even on PotD every combat was: rightclick on random enemy -> watch everything die. I lost interest extremely quick because of that. Knowing how combat in DOS 1/2 looked, I'm not optimistic about this one. If they didn't manage to craft something good while having complete freedom, I don't trust them to craft something good while being limited by the shitty 5E.

There's a game named Leman, but I don't think that you can have a big party. I don't honestly know, but it seems somewhat inspired by Battle Brothers.

So who's playing this on launch day? I've paid little to no attention to it since it entered early access and have only recently started perusing this thread. I don't give a shit about Larian writing or [current year pronoun politics] as long as the gameplay is good. Guess I'll have to skim through here after release day to see if there's a chance of that being the case.

There's also Wartales. Does that count?

For me personally no, I played it but it was meh, got bored after 30-40 hours and I don't think I'll come back. It doesn't have much in common with BB in terms of gameplay, combat is FAR too easy and doesn't have the same "simulationist" feel as BB, and it's full of stupid mechanics like level gating equipment.

Sadly I missed it live

Damn, Swen's really been on the ball with BG3 marketing, days away from release and now he pops up in a pro-tranny stream, undoubtedly securing the last few codexer holdouts into preordering the game.

What he said in this stream? I can't hearing him, he sounds so sad and tired.

I'm looking forward to more Larian action free from the drudgery of D:OS 2 character and armour systems.

Not to mention Larian itemization. Thank god random loot mania is out this time. I was excited when BG3 was announced, because if Larian had ditched those few terrible design decisions, I would have enjoyed DOS and DOS2 much more, and I knew the confines of a D&D ruleset would force them to be less moronic. DOS games had good foundations that were dragged down by some truly bone-headed decisions.
