Is there that much content already in it or are you just testing various builds?

Eveytime I start a new playthrough I choose a different class and different alligment. And still I have not been able to test everything.
One thing you have to give to Larian is that they are going above and beyond when it comes to reactivity. Every class and race combination appears to have unique interacctions available to them.

I play the game every time a significant patch hits. I also like to test reactivity of the game - how the duergar and deep gnomes react if you're a deep gnome, how the druids react if you're a tiefling druid, whether anything interesting happens if you redeem Kagha but gets Halsin to die, whether anything interesting happens if you destroy the cult of the Absolute without ever entering the druid grove and hearing about Halsin, how does Shadowheart react if you're a cleric of Selune, how does Shadowheart react if you're a cleric of Shar, can you romance Shadowheart without ever finding out her true nature, what happens if you destroy the druid grove before ever being asked to do it, and so on, and so forth. Most of the times I find something interesting.

I just don't get why they haven't added the Duergar yet. Like there are plenty of people that like dwarves and evil dwarves in particular (from Warhammer's Chaos Dwarves to the Duergar themselves), but who the fuck likes deep gnomes?

I finally tried this out after holding off for years, just realized I was going to get it on release anyway so might as well at least see what its like a few months ahead.
It's even more like D:OS than I thought lmao. I hope in the final release they change up the UI and sound effects some more to make it feel more distinct.
Combat at least seems better than D:OS. They know how to make fights utilize the environment, and borrowing mechanics from DnD is a huge improvement over armorsponges.

I stopped once I got to the Druid village when the game starting chugging and cutscenes were glitching out. I thought at this point they'd have the first few hours of the game ironed out, but whatever, it IS still in early access.
Looking forward to playing once it releases for real.

The game still has glitches all over (minor, yet present still) and there's this general choppiness to the action even when your pc might be well above the reccomended reqs. It worries me. Optimization hasn't been their target during EA and I don't think it's going to be until at least a couple of post-release patches by the look of things.

I purposely avoided following development, but that background picture doesn't bode well. I fondly remember portraits from the original games having grizzled, dirty, pure fantasy look and feel, bar a couple of porn stars in second game. But here every character reeks of clean, metrosexual look with lots of makeup and hair products being used.... Wtf Sven..

I am more worried about the fact, that the we only get six companions. I really had hoped for more, you know, since this is a Baldur's Gate game, and the series always had a great array of companions. A real bummer.

I am not surprised, considering the reactivity and the previous games Swen worked on.

the series always had a great array of companions.
It was two games. And the companions in the first one had barely any dialog.
Great voice acting does help a lot to establish character/personality. There is a reason why I love Xzar, Montaron or Tiax so much, even though they had barely any dialogue in Baldur's Gate.

We know there'll be a (very small) handful of additional companions in the full version, but I'm also not too sure what to make of the EA companions being used in all the promo art
Gives me the impression that whatever other companions they might add will feel like afterthoughts

So, we now know, Larian bots, have low expectations. The bar they set is from a 25 year old game made by a completely inexperienced game developer.

Thankfully, old BIO didn't stick to that bar themselves. Imagine if for BG2 or DA if instead if giving the npcs more dialogue and depth; they just shrugged their shoulders and stuck with the limited Bg1 npc dialogue and said,"well... it was good enough fir bg1 it is good enough fir the sequel."

The point if sequels and new games is to add and improve on older ones while keeping the good stuff. Larian doesnt get that nor do their fanboys apparently. Lmao
