The problem I have with Astarion is that I'm having a hard time rationalizing why my character would want to have anything to do with him after our first meeting. By attacking the protagonist, and later by attempting to suck blood off him, Astarion just leaves no sensible protagonist a choice but to kick him out.
Weird, he never tried to suck my blood. I talked to him, then sent him to the camp.

Combat-wise, how close is this game to Divinity Original Sin 2?

I've only played D:OS2 for around 5-6 hours, but the combat was a bunch of great ideas implemented really poorly.
I beat an act 1 boss instantly with ~100hp by placing 5-6 barrels next to her and casting fire bolt.

You don't HAVE to be a barrelmancer, but it is an option.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Finally got to play this for a few hours today. Spent most of that time trying to run away from villagers after one of my co-op partners accidentally threw a flask of water at a cow. Ended up having to suicide two out of four characters and reviving them afterwards. :hearnoevil:

And why would anyone take Gale anyway since he apparently eats up all your magic items
Whatever objections you might have to Gale, this is a weird one since in my 60ish hour playthrough of the game he only asked 3 times for something from my inventory and there's just so many generic enchanted weapons it doesn't even feel like an annoyance.
That's because this mechanic gets altered after Act 1.

Elminster makes it so that he doesn't need to eat the items.
This feels kinda gimmicky, either make it so that you really have to sacrifice lots of good items but then get some extra mileage out of Gale's story, or don't include it at all. The way they'd done it is like a lot of hunger mechanics in older games that are trivialized early on to the point you wonder why they included them at all.

If you think Lae'zel is meant to be a "girl boss" you really fail at reading even the most basic intentionality in writing. No wonder video game writing is often non-subtle - gamers can't even read the most basic cardboard cutouts right.
This. Laezel is the MOST OBVIOUS character - "she is young, but she will learn". When you have such an obvious and generic trope, and gamers still can't recognize it, I guess we shouldn't expect anything more complicated.
She feels like the tsundere archetype so common in anime

They could have given her personality to someone who doesn't look like something from my nightmares though.
She's a lore accurate githyanki. Coomers, keep walking! This is a lore neighbourhood.

Suprising no modder has yet fixed her face to not look like something that was smashed with a hammer about a dozen of times.

Already done, not updated for release (yet) sadly.

Baldurs gate 3 'hunger' mechanic is also awful.

I'm done collecting food after act 1, im pretty sure i have enough saved up to long rest over 100 times.

Is it just me, or are your allies behaviours bugged as shit in the Warden fight? They're supposed to make a run for it, but when they get halfway, they turn back and start fighting

Sawyer said it himself in his BG3 stream - "I don't see Obsidian making such kind of game any time soon"
Nobody would see Larian making such kind of game either. Remind yourself that Swen basically went all in, opened new studios in Canada, Ireland, Russia, Indonesia, expanded the company by 500% or something, for this game. Even bought a new huge house to function as an office building, which promptly started to flood and the parking lot to sink.

The fact is, the people at Obsidian would NOT go all in like that. There isn't a person at Obsidian who'd gamble everything, they all have scars from Black Isle, from Troika, from various other cancellations. No Prometheus there.
Imagine Obsidian had gone all in on Tyranny and not shelved it off like some cheap contract work.

Clearly lorefags want the astral space frog late stage too much surgery Michael Jackson face vs. the smooth skinned waifu. Who am I to judge... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Froggy is a githyanki. They are supposed to look like ugly mofos. Plus she pegs Astarion if you don't fuck her when she demands it.

It doesn't matter if they do or not. That's what I wrote above -- even with an infinite money cheat which they have now, even if given the same engine, they are creatively and organisationally incapable of delivering a comparable project.
You can iterate a technology, iterate the same game over and over, but if you've lost the human capital, you can't get that back. And if you've lost it, then whose responsibility is that?

That's why I say it must be depressive to think about from the position of someone who spent all this time at this company and saw all those people leave.

I'd put the fault with Feargus and the owners, but maybe Josh has his share too. Who knows.
MCA was always right about them

Josh is not a good lead but I think he's a decent creative. MCA is a good creative but shouldn't be left to decide anything, ever. Feargus seems very weird with some choices he's made.
All in all, a boat should only have one captain. Even with an international presence, Sven is the face, and everything is focused on him. Let people do their jobs.

Siding with Minthara progresses the grove and the forest to a semi-siege state, but I didn't do much in the wilderness before reaching that stage. I wanted to finish up every loose end before slaughtering the grove and could not long rest or else it'd change quest states

I don't know if I know how to play with spell slots now

40 hours so far on tactician, game is easy that makes the respec thingy really unnecessary you need to know the system so much and on purpose to fuck up your character.
Being able to swap spells without camping makes shit really trivial.
Other thing that is quite strange is how gory some cinematics are but at the same time the combat don't have any sort of gore or dismemberment feedback just ragdolls and tons of blood.
Story wise so far I'm entertained recently started Act 2.

I'm starting to think the writers snuck some verboten commentary into the game.

>Alpha bitch girl boss companions who don't need no man

>Best character path is for the player to mentally break them down, at which point they become your fawning dick slaves
