I actually played worse games than those but I am unable to remember their names. Also, somehow all those games were made in Europe..

1. Arcania: Utterly boring with some of the worst writing ever. the only game that made me feel physically ill and depressed.

2. Two Worlds broken, shallow and ugly the only good aspect was the funny voice acting.

3. Risen 2: PB making bad console garbage still hurts

Damn, this guy looks like Mr Bean. That's +1 for the game.

I've played some really bad "rpgs" in early 2000s, not even recent steam rpgmaker wave tier so reading this thread is funny. It's basically "trigger codex" mixed with "most overrated rpg" instead of what title suggests.

It was already answered. I share your experience but some other people do not play that much stuff and they mostly play either AAA stuff or Codex approved(tm) games. That leaves limited choice. Not to mention, "worst" is more subjective than "best". We do have SOME idea on the Codex what makes a good CRPG but apparently almost everything can make a "worst" one.

Plus the "trigger part" from usual and unusual suspects.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
  1. Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel - Hack 'n slash game that is Godawful in gameplay, story/writing, graphics and music. One of the worst games that I have ever played. While the two Dark Allaince games on PS2 was okay for what they were, the same treatment for Fallout did not go well.
  2. Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone - One of the worst rpgs I have played. Utterly shit gameplay, and story.
  3. Demons Age - Really bad game. They took assets from Chaos Chronicles, flipped them and managed to somehow make a game. My only compliment for the game is that you can finish it, which I thought they wouldn't even bother with.
  4. Arcania - Take Gothic, murder it, then defile its corpse.
  5. Final Fantasy XIII - Not the worst I have played, but certainly not a good game, coming from Square Enix. It made me fall out of love with the FF series. Only thing going for it is its soundtrack. Everything else was a letdown.
So many games one could add...

Try Deathlord, Legend of Faerghail, Scavengers of the Mutant World to see what truly shitty games are. I mean shitty games, not games that fail to even be games.

I still laugh my ass off when shitbags like HOTUD say that Legend of Faerghail has an "excellent combat model". Uh huh!

DT II (1st one was decent tho)
HnoFT (I avoid JRPGs since that one)
PLS
NotB

That being said I enjoyed PoE 1 enough to finish it on PotD difficulty after more than 200h (re-started several times until I deciced to finish a playthrough). But I totally see why it is not considered great, and even considered shit by many.

I'm a bit puzzled by the negative reviews of Dungeon Lords on this Forum. I am especially surprised when DL is criticized by the same people who love Wizards & Warriors.

Theoretically these two games are very different, they represent different sub-genres (third person a-RPG vs semi-turn-based blobber). In practice, however, they are very similar. They are built on the basis of the same gameplay philosophy (map structure, plot, atmosphere, guild system - all these are almost identical). Both have similar weaknesses and strengths. I am playing DL right now for the first time (Steam edition) and I really like this game.

Comparing both games:

- Both are clearly incomplete and underdeveloped. Both are spoiled by attempts to make them a multiplayer games (but multiplayer is really possible in DL).

- Both games feature boring and repetitive wilderness areas with the same monster respawn system (but the environment in DL is a bit more interesting and diverse).

- Both games have great dungeons with very good puzzles.

- Both have a rich set of monsters with interesting properties and special attacks.

- Both have good enough itemization (not the best, but ok).

- Both have a great character development system related to guild quests. I know that not everyone likes the changes made to DL in re-editions. For me, however, both systems (from Collector's Edition and from MMXII) have their advantages and disadvantages. Personally, I even prefer this new system a bit (it's more class-dependent, which is fine for me). The only thing clearly broken is the magic mechanics. At least in Steam edition all spells and skills work as described.

Overall, I think DL is a very good game (although badly unfinished). I find it on the same shelf as other abandoned masterpieces (Revenant, Arcanum, Wizards & Warriors, Divinity 2: Ego Draconis). It is one of the few a-RPGs that has interesting dungeons - which itself is enough to play DL. It certainly cannot be considered one of the worst in history.

My "bottom 5":

1.) NWN1 - Contrary to many people, I do not like not only OC, but also all other add-ons and modules (Swordfilght, for example, is terribly unplayable for me). I hate that everything looks like an editor product. I don't like D&D 3 - especially at high levels. NWN2 is better in every way (although it's a very average game).

2.) Skyrim. I'm saying this as someone who likes Oblivion (with OOO and a few other mods). I didn't manage to improve Skyrim with any number of mods. The game is unplayable for me: the character development system is hopeless, itemization is hopeless, crafting is hopeless, quests are hopeless. Dungeons - the worst I've seen in a cRPG.

3.) Witcher 3. First of all - it's not a RPG. Second: I'm one of the few people in the world who doesn't like writing in W3. I find it pretentious (however, I would like to add that I like Witcher 1). Third and most importantly - this game has almost no gameplay; it's one big cutscene show.

4.) From older games - the Bard's Tale series. I don't understand why this game has a cult status. Boring, repetitive fights, hopelessly empty dungeons...

5.) Wizardry 1-6. Maybe I just played these games too late. Boring fights combined with an insane level of difficulty and a generally uninteresting gameplay. Wizardry 7-8 are ok, although they're not my style (too combat-heavy).

Buncha spoiled snowflakes in this thread, I swear. You wouldn’t know a real turd if it smacked you in the face, probably because you’ve spent too much time playing AAA games.

Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone
This remains one of the top all-time sellers on GOG.
Why? I have no idea.

I remember playing this on a buddy's PC in 2005. It is in no way shape or form an RPG. It's a beat-em-up action game. It might as well be Streets of Rage: Forgotten Realms. I had some mild amusement with it with an hour or two, but it was otherwise completely forgettable.

Nifft Batuff I considered Dungeon Siege 1 for this as well. Looked good for the time, was entertained for maybe the first biome. Very mindless game. Kind of like a party based Gauntlet Legends without the arcade aspects. I liked Dungeon Siege 2 though.

The way to do it is, obviously, gauge the game against its hype. No point in listing some shovelware concocted by a Romanian street peddler during a nightshift break in a chinese asbestos factory.

We ought to hate the developers for their retarded conscious decisions and their ill will only. Not the lack of artistic skills of some rando Russian programmer.

Thusly, my beefs are:

1. Baldur's Gate 3 / DOS 2 - a product of our zeitgeist. A zeitgeist where an average RPG player is a transgender furry pedo.

2. All the weeaboo inspired shit console ports like the Dark Souls, where you go from corridor to corridor and combat feels like slime wrestling.

3. Outer Worlds - the setting of this game is literally Reddit

4. The Witcher 3 - a Grand Theft Auto clone mascarading as an RPG.

5. Every post-Morrowind Bethesda product for raping great ideas with 5th grade screenplay and gameplay decisions.

Man, it's like ... it's like almost if people still seem to have some sort of impulse control and don't waste money on every shit looking RPG that has been thrown into the market. I can understand those unknown purchases when you're underage, but if you're 18+ and have access to the world wide web, you never would buy shit like Redaxium or YIIK, unless you have way too much money to spend, or live in San Francisco.

D&D Demon Stone is mediocre to poor but not complete garbage. More like a slightly worse D&D version of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King game. But neither of them is a rpg. It also doesn't have coop so there is little reason to play it but there are much worse games out there. I've played it once, as it came as free ware game with some video game magazine, must have been Gamestar or PC Games. There were often some janky games that came along with the magazines.

It also looks like some games would score top 10 and bottom 10. That's got to be some genius next level design; people will notice the game no matter what.

This thread is just another "most overrated CRPG" thread.
Much more interesting would be "worst games you have completed".
A discussion bears meaning only when the interlocutors possess the necessary knowledge about topics at hand. What I'm trying to say, is that I could throw up 5 random titles I scooped from the bottom of a dustbin in Kaliningrad back in 2008 and leave it at that. Would anyone know what games I'm talking about? No. No, and thus, said people would not partake in any discussion. We are all here to argue, after all.

That would be Final Fantasy XIII.
I even completed it twice, and I feel no shame.

From my list, i admit I didn't complete NumaNuma nor Deadwater but I completed the other 3 and sometimes, you don't need to complete a game to see it's utter garbage, Deadwater system is terrible, the new exploration + sailing system just adds loading screens, the story makes no sense, the combat is both terrible and boring.

Numenera combat is probably the worse combat system ever created, even worse than PoE and I didn't think it was possible but it is and you're showered with lore you didn't ask for.

NWN 1 & 2, terrible engines, some of the worst RTwP combat. I despise RTwP combat but they really went beyond everything made before, only PoE did worse but mostly because of the terrible system and then PoE 2 which pushed the retardation even further.
