Well, i tried it. I went looking for birds which took me all day between the cowardly knight quest, the bandits shenanigans and some murderer i met on the way back (which i couldn't report, but at least i beat the crap out of him).

So the next day i go look for Nightnigale but i'm suddenly told i have to go meet Theresa before noon. Talking to Nightingale is supposed to trigger the courtship quest but apparently i waited too long and it triggered by itself. I guess that's an indication not to skip main quests yet. :(

I'll talk to Nightingale as soon as i'm done with this wench and get it over with.

On the plus side, i robbed Pazdera and half the guards in the sleeping tower lmao. My pickpocketing skill is now at level 9, stealth at level 12. This game was the most fun i've had playing a thief in a while, but i suspect as soon as my skills get maxed it will probably turn routine. Already pickpocketing has lost a bit of its luster considering it has become a lot easier from when i started. The first couple of seconds are critical after that i can go past 12 or even 15 seconds before i get caught which allows me to rumage their shit to my heart's content and then some.

This Nightingale is a funny dude. He screams at a guard for getting drunk during duty and then spends the day playing dice with me. And he sucks at it too it was my first gambling game and i won it lul.

Holy shit lmao i got stopped by a guard and he said he found stolen shit. I was pretty sure i had put all the stolen items in the chest but then remebered i also stole some keys, and i just discovered i can't put those in the chest. So now i gotta walk around with stolen loot i can't shelf away. Nice.

[EDIT] I reloaded and nobody has come after me yet so i guess the searches are random. So now i gotta be on my toes walking around for a few days until the keys are no longer marked as stolen.

[EDIT #2] Another guard came to search me. This is fucking retarded.

This quest showcases one of the things I dislike in this game. It tells you to press CAPS LOCK, so that you can walk slowly behind him, but his walking speed is faster than yours, so that you have to constantly switch between walking and running to catch up.
Sacrilige, I know, but this being a non-issue with a controller is one of the reasons I prefer it. [...]
Yeah, this is one of the very few games with first person perspective arguably better with a controller. The horse controls come to mind as well.

Its doable but i have to agree that the shakes are one of the worst drawbacks because of archery.
When i restarted my playthrough, because i regretted learning the masterstrike and didn't succeed in modding it out, i went with another debuff.
I thought missing on archery and lockpicks wouldn't be too serious for an honorable knight, but i was wrong.

Well, i'm going to try something different.

I reloaded the save i made before talking to Nightingale and i'm going go on a couple of bandit hunting trips for a few days, and level up archery as much as i can. I tried passing time for 48 hours and Nightingale was still at the church and no quests were failed so i think i'm safe to just pause the main questline at him for a bit.

And hopefully by the time i'm done scavenging the forest to train archery the guards won't bother me about the stolen keys i can't get rid of.

I used a controller for all of the swordfighting, but any time I used a bow, I switched to my mouse. I also used
Code:
wh_pl_showfirecursor 1
Call me a newb or a pleb or whatever. I want a crosshair with my ranged combat.

I never understood the people saying "It takes years to become proficient with a bow. It would make sense that Henry couldn't shoot. So it makes sense that you don't have a crosshair." OK, but then Henry can become the deadliest swordsman in the empire in just a couple of months? Because swordfighting is so much easier than archery? And you get an indicator for which direction you should block, and to time your dodges and counterattacks. But not even a crosshair for archery?

I also poisoned my arrows. Put on some dark clothes, head out into the forest, and with a bunch of poisoned arrows I would murder Cumans and bandits by the dozen. I also made tons of money hunting boar. If the meat still had some Bane on it, that's the tavern keeper's problem.

Shakes are totally fine for lockpicking and pickpocketing but they totally wrecks your archery. Your bow is essentially useless before lvl 10.

Yes can confirm. I managed to lockpick just fine with the shakes.
I also tried to mitigate the effects of shakes on archery, by picking the perk where you shoot better if you are drunk, and by drinking archery potions but was not very impressed with the results.

I haven't broken a single pick since i started, so shakes doesn't do anything there, but archery is super ass with it.

It would be funny if poisoned meat kills somebody and then you're suddenly a wanted man, because the tavernkeep fingers you out as "the man who sold me that meat!".

I don't know about useless. I had a plenty of fun learning how to fire a bow by poaching. Although often it looked pretty much like this:

Muhahaha, so i went to the bandid camp near where you drop those traps for the bird quest, did some archery, looted a big chest i hadn't noticed before, dispatched all the bandits etc.

On my way back, encumbered as shit, i meet like 5 bandits on the road. Can't run, so i can't split them and i can't fight all five, so what i did is went around them, approach the four hiding in the bushes, pickpocketed all four, than choke each of them in turn, looted all their shit and left their friend "posting" in the middle of the road behind lul.

Fucking next level Garret shit right here. Too bad it took me 20m to crawl my way back to the mill. I gotta get a horse.

Just keep doing the MQ for a while, it won't really kick until into gear until they ask you to scout a bandit encampment.

Definitely funny considering that it would mean admitting he bought meat from a poacher. Also a pretty big fault of the stolen items system, where venison stops being stolen and any food vendor will buy it from you despite the fact that that would be illegal anyway.

I guess buying a poached meat is lesser crime than poisoning someone. But I have to admit I am not too well versed in medieval laws, so I could be wrong.

Afaik both poaching and murder were capital crimes so people were getting hanged for that.

Also you can cook all your poached meat and then it's considered clean (and IIRC sells for more).

I like it. Modern people forget that the idea of a "right to privacy" was invented fairly recently in America and exported to the rest of the world, before that the logic in the justice system was very much "if you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to worry about." A random burgher asking a stranger "Who are you, what are you doing here?" would be perfectly reasonable, and if you didn't have a good answer to that question then you were in trouble.

This is also why revisionists who try to inject sex everywhere into premodern life infuriate me so much - which comes up in the game, at one or two points. Solitude simply did not exist in these people's lives: poor families slept together 8+ to a room, noble women had handmaidens who slept at the foot of their bed like dogs and escorted them to the bathroom, reporting on their behavior to the rest of the family. The idea that any of these people could go for a roll in the hay without their entire city knowing about it within the hour is absurd. Monogamy and premarital purity (at least for women) were enforced by the whole community, violently.

You are more likely to be accosted by guards if you look like someone who would steal shit (apparently, I haven't really tested this). If you have high charisma and some speech skill you can use it to talk your way out of being searched.

Sorry man, didn't notice I misspelled it there. You Czechs are cool people. :)

Ok, so after wasting a day shooting arrows at bandits and not even managing to get the bow skill to level 1 i decided to just go hunting with Capon. Redid the whole quest with Nightingale and now i gotta meet with Capon at dawn.

To be honest, i'm actually enjoying that the game is pressing you into the main quest. I'm still trying to squeeze some free time in between the various steps but keeping up with the main quests feels more realistic even if the pace is a bit hard. Wouldn't make sense for Henry to just leave Nightingale waiting at the church for like five weeks. You can do that in Baldur's Gate but with a game like this that tries to be so realistic it feels pretty jarring now that i think of it, especially since Henry would want to try to get his revenge as soon as possible it makes no sense he would waste weeks hunting rabbits just for the fuck of it.

Eitherway, before going to bed so i can meet Capon at dawn i went on another robbing expedition this time looting shit from the rich woman lul. Noble knight by day, dirty thief by night. I even assembled my special robbing outfit with 1 noise level and around 30 consp/visibility etc.

Only thing that is worrying me now is that combat isn't as hard anymore, and my weapon skills aren't even that high. Both my mace and sword skills are at 2 and i still beat everything i've met so far pretty easily. If i replay this game i will install some mods to make it harder. For now i'll just keep rolling like this.

Whoever made the pacifist achievement for this game is Satan himself. While a lot of encounters in the game can be bypassed in one way or another, some can't, and your allies literally can not win battles without you assisting them. So you still stab people a lot as a pacifist, you just always make sure you are not the one dealing the finishing blow.

My kills count is still at 0, but i had to reload a few times because of accidental kills and that's gonna run thin soon enough. For now, as soon they surrender i tell them leave their weapons than i chase them and beat them down with fists, but i'm already resigned that eventually i'll have to start killing.
