I hope the new main character is a try-hard kid who grew up on the Citadel idolizing Shepard based on news reports and novellas. And the line between the man and the myth he is trying to emulate is blurred.

Or they could just do the frontier space investigator thing properly this time.

And he should act on that idolizing by going around trying to screw everything that Shepard stuck his dick into in the original trilogy.

This clearly shows they will rebuilt mass effect relays possibly in some other galaxy and continue with Liara and shadow broker storyline. I wouldn't be surprised if Shepard reappears as half reaper sentient AI as cameo if you chose green ending.
I still really don't like that they're sticking with people just knowing how to repair or even build relays now. It was a nice little hard cap to what tech could do in the universe, you couldn't just fly anywhere you wanted you were still bound to relays already in place.
I guess it doesn't really matter though... This is the same series that came up with the lazarus project on 2 for no real reason. Now you just have people slinging themselves into andromeda too.
Why shouldn't they be able to figure out how to do this given enough time though? I don't see a problem here if it's set hundreds or thousands of years after ME3.

the asari have known about them for at least ~2500 years and have learned... nothing, as far as I remember.
iirc they were aware of the reapers though and just chose not to share it with anyone

Seems pretty retarded at the first glance, but IMO its a realistic portrayal of how an all-female race would behave - ignoring problems and hoping someone else will step in to solve them.

Inspiring leadership.
To be fair, Mary DeMarle is probably the best writer that has entered that company in over a decade.

That said, knowing Biowhore, she'll decline soon enough.
Did their franchise creative director die and return as ghost? I hope all his spinning doesn't disturb the neighbors.

That picture does look the a freeze frame that'd be followed by a narrator saying how the person was never seen again.

I don't know if I'm more sad or glad for Shamus Young having died last year, he would wreck to hell and back this game on his blog in 20 blogposts. Sad he won't do this, it would be fun to read, glad, because he don't have to see and play through this disgrace anymore.

Mass Effect is the story of Shepard. Andromeda kinda confirmed this. Nobody cares about it anymore. Not even Bioware fans I'd say.

But Shepard has done everything they could do in this context, it makes no sense for him to come back from the dead for like a third time. Liara was also the most boring character in the entire franchise. Even Garrus was more likeable.

Poor Shep. No rest for the wicked?

an obvious reboot would be some hand-waivy shit about the end of ME1 causing a universe split and taking the series in a good direction this time
which is why they won't do it

instead they'll do some retarded pandering shit to their niche romance simulator fans AGAIN and make a game very few people want

Romances are what people want. Especially from a Bioware game. Nobody, not a single soul, cares about stuff like build quality and combat design in Bioware games. And to be fair that stopped being their priority after BG2 was released.

I mean it says so in the title. Romance Playing Game!

They should embrace trashyness and bring back Shepard in the most stupid way. Maybe Cerberus made Shepard's spare clone during the Lazarus project. Or even better, maybe Shepard had a long lost twin brother/sister.

Screw the lore, screw the world building, the series had zero consistency inbetween different games anyway. Just go full retarded pulp action game with Shepard flying around blasting bad guys and having sex with alien chicks.

The bioware capable of doing this is long gone.
See also: nu bioware devs saying DAO was too dark/grim and any new entries won't be like that.

That's my problem with Mass Effect as a setting. The fact that no one seems to innovate- so much so that the Reapers rely upon that stagnation.

I can accept all aliens being vaguely humanoid.

I can force myself to accept (begrudgingly) the idea that humanity managed to integrate and assimilate into *Galactic* society in just 30 years.

But the idea that *none* of ME's races, including races like Salarians and Quarians- species known for innovations- never though to innovate beyond Reaper-placed technology is just stupid.

Just because the Romans built incredible aqueducts in their time doesn't mean people in the Medieval Era stopped attempting to do it themselves.

Like Rusty said, the BioWare that was capable of making this, or even willing to try, has been dead for more than a decade. I don't think there's anyone actually talented left at BioWare, nor does EA particularly care to provide them with support or funding like they did in the past.

Dragon Age 4 has been in development since 2015. That's 8 years now, and they've shown almost nothing of the game. That doesn't scream confidence to me, it reeks of a moribund IP farm working on a minimum budget with a skeleton crew, bleeding talent (or "talent" in the case of BioWare) as the years go by.

I fully expect Dragon Age 4 and Mass Effect 5 to be even worse than Andromeda - buggier, jankier, with lower production values and the kind of writing and story only people deep in the RetardEra echo chamber could come up with.

I don't personally mind this with the mass effect relays because the whole point is that they were made by the reapers and thus might as well be fucking magic for all we know. They were made with the purpose of lining species through a very specific path once they found them because - hey, who wouldn't take advantage? Add some mumbo jumbo about the relays being so advanced that they're uncipherable even by the brightest minds, give some bullshit reason as to why you can replicate the mass effect on a smaller scale but nothing like the relays and you're golden.

The games don't really do this AFAIK though and whenever you do see some massive project that advances the setting its... the Lazarus project or the crucible. So I'd rather they just keep this stagnant at that point, honestly.

I think better comparison would be the Medieval Europeans using the Roman roads just like ME races using the Reaper Jump Gates Mass Relays. But progress never stops and the Europeans invented firearms and better ships than the Romans in XIV and XV centuries.
BioWare teased the Thanix cannons and how four dreadnoughts can destroy a Reaper capital ship. So it was high time for the Turians or other races to invent weapons capable of destroying the Sovereign-class ships. But in-game the Reapers were invulnerable which messed the series plot in the end.

I think the humanoid form would be the result of convergent evolution. There would be pressure for the lifeform to be land based, possess prehensility (and ergo bipedalism), possess sensory organs that would process sound, light, heat etc. which all in turn undergo selection to become a certain shape due to advantages it confers ( eg. ears having a helix to better capture and direct sound ). I don't think the Hanar could ever become an intelligent species, for example. Or perhaps you could have remnants of either de novo organisms or uplifted animals left over from Prothean experiments, and even then there would be severe risk of such species degenerating back into their atavistic forms.
