As Jimmious said, they give the option.

Plus, we're more used to it now with plenty of games *primarily* single player needing a connection, like a lot of Souls-likes and diablo-likes.

And also of course, this is the JRPG forum where we have a much lower ratio of frothing maniacs and lunatics than in the GRPG or General Gaming forums. Our extremists tend to be of the aspergers variety, god bless 'em.

It's the only reason stopping me from getting the game, tbh.

The server upkeep is also a weird and seemingly unnecessary / gimmicky way to spend their money for a team which constantly tells their audience that they lack funds.

The incline is too strong, there are really challenging scenarios and a lot of complexity in character building, its one of the best systems ive seen. Plus its get patched every other day, and you can download your online saves to use them in offline mode if you are inclined to do so, or just play offline.
The issue with the corrupted savegames is being addressed, as i said, practically patched every other day.

And god damn, i paid less than two bucks for this game, already over 50 hours sunk into it and im not even halfway through the story.

Basically exactly what Lhynn said.

If the gameplay is good enough - and it most definitely is - then little things like save issues that will eventually be sorted out (and aren't even an issue for everyone) and a slighty off translation (which again, really isn't particularly bad) can be forgiven of a small struggling studio.

And god damn, i paid less than two bucks for this game, already over 50 hours sunk into it and im not even halfway through the story.

Damn, was that some regional pricing or what? I almost felt bad after 10 hours in that I bought it at 25% off at around $20.

I think this game made me appreciate pre-set combat scenarios.
Almost every mission feels unique and interesting so far (I've played about 10 hours). Different enemy compositions, different approaches necessary etc

Even the pre-set scenarios could have some unexpected turns of events.
Sometimes objectives change on the fly.

One time I got a side-quest to find and arrest some Javert guy in a scenario I had previously completed.
As I already knew how it plays, I went right at the main gang boss, aiming to finish it quickly.
But once I took the leader out, one of the remaining under-bosses decided it's time to run. He rallied the rest of their forces to storm police post blocking the exit.
So the objective changed to stop gangsters from killing all the defenders and escaping.

With all my characters are on the other side of the map; and the police blockade having only 4 NPCs holding against a score of elite thugs, it was one hell of a race to get back there on time.
This made the scenario to play completely different from the fist time when I did it gradually killing one under-boss after another before reaching the leader.

I never liked the nuXCOM vibe, but this game is fun (I generally like animu which helps).

Bought the game last Friday and now I have 30 hours played. This game is good, very good. I usually get bored of modernish xcom 2-action- per turn tactics games but this game pure incline, options galore, good difficulty (and the saving system is part of that), excellent replayability and ok anime aesthetics and story.

Highly recommended game

They really need to get that saving issue sorted, because how this game handles saves is brilliant for a tactics game. It saves all the time, but there's no 'reload' button. Live with your mistakes is the name of the game here and I love it. Being a weak-willed perfectionist, it's rare I can resist reloading if I turn out to have made a tactical error that results in a party wipe, but here I have no choice! It adds so much to the game. Yes, I know there's probably loads of people scoffing and saying that's how all tactics games should be played, but if you've got a reload button it's always there, tempting you with the promise of a better result. The genius is there's still checkpoints in missions, so if you do fail complete

Yeah, I can relate. The save system works perfectly 99% of the time.
There's a mission, where you have to locate and evacuate 3 police squads, 10 people in total.
If you go in blind, like I did, there's a big nasty surprise for you, turning the mission into "saving private Ryan went wrong".
That 1% happened when I decided to go in the 2nd time and do it properly without loosing any of the policemen.

And of course the checkpoint saved right before one of the police officers got gunned down by an arrived enemy patrol, with me unable to prevent it no matter what I do from that checkpoint.
So all I could do is play it though till the end (which I already did before) - like good 40 minutes; or just abandon the mission and start it anew.
This time sink could have been avoided If only I played better could reload to an earlier checkpoint, but I could not and thus this is the only failed case I have atm

I don't really know why I'm spoilering this because I'm 99% sure everyone just clicks on them out of habit but hey ho.

Just did this mission myself, or perhaps I should say 'just abandoned this mission myself' as Sion and Albus were both dead, two squads of cops were dead men walking and Irene was trying to hold her own against about 20 bad guys. Cba to watch her die like a dog so abandoned that shit. And the worst of it was, it was all my own fault. I'd breezed the last few story missions so thought it was going to be a cakewalk. Took Sion away from the main team to pick up a crate, triggered a group of 5. Then tried to get my team over to him but the White Tiger thugs spotted the police squad to the left and started ganging up on them. Then tried to get Albus over to help with the other squad I'd picked up on the way but despite his 55% dodge chance he kept getting critted by gunners. (Does dodge not work on ranged shots? Thought it did but now I'm suspicious.) Sion and Anne then tried to get over there after taking out the original goons but the escaping spoonists ran straight into them and one of the bosses 1-shot Sion. It was at this point I knew things were lost. Played on for a few turns but Albus went down despite healing pots from the cops and Irene was surrounded by lots of masked men with very hungry eyes. /Abandon before it turned into something you'd find on Pornhub.

I'm gutted but at the same time I know it was my fault totally, and I'm happy the game has the balls to punish me mercilessly. No fixed rolls here for the heroes, you make a mistake and you pay the price. Now, time to try again.

Yeah, those White Tigers gunners have great builds.
They have a lot of masteries boosting their accuracy and crit chance, and a very dangerous combo:

So even if they miss, they make your characters bleed (and they do have Blood Scent as well, so it's guaranteed bleeding);
and after a single blocked or dodged attack from anyone of their gang, they get well over 100% hit chance.

The way I did it on "no casualties run":
Fist time you go in, the seemingly logical way (well, for me it was) is to get the closest squads first - so the left one, then the one on the right and lastly the one far ahead.
And thats when the shit hits the fan.
So a better way is to get the left squad, then go straight ahead and deal with that huge White Tiger ambush on your own terms.
After that you can safely get the frontal squad, and on the way back pick up the right-squad. But doing it like this will have you to kill pretty much every single thug on the map.

Spoiler tags are very useful to me. In this case I clicked to glance over the text and decide whether I wanted to get into it (I didn't) and also saw your disclaimer. Don't stop believin' in spoiler tags.

I have Irene usually go on her own, she is a killing machine with her hero buff and stuff like lonely wolf. She can usually demolish the enemy team, no matter what she is facing. But the white tigers are pretty brutal.

On other news, I just got Kylie and an entire new system got unlocked. I can now build robots out of 6 different parts and 4 different options including OS and chassis. Then i build modules to equip them on the robots to make a build just like any other character. Then i can summon them in the field, if it breaks down or runs out of fuel you can just summon another, so its good to have a few spare ones. They are REALLY powerful too, and if you invest in the parts they can get ridonk good. Very fast, and very damaging.

I think animal taming becomes a thing soon as well. So that will be another whole other system. Speaking of mechanics, Irene has her own mechanic called linkage, if you hit with her powers in a sequence she will use another skill after the first one if the target survives, its sort of like a combo system that makes her downright beastly if handled properly.

why do these jap games have such an abysmal production value? i haven't seen animations this retarded since 20 years ago, maybe longer. the translation is giving me headache, often i have to read a phrse 3-4 times to understand what it really means. lots of useless filler dialogues, japs' masochism is known around the world.
other than this, i'm probably still inside the tutorial and i can already see it's a potential masterpiece of absolute level of awesomeness.

Its not jap, its korean. The animations dont matter, just up the speed to very fast. The translation is alright, at least i understand most of what is being said without trouble. Theres also the fact that a lot of stuff gets revealed later down the line, so a lot of things seemingly make no sense until you get the context.

The actual game starts when you get Sion.

It's Korean, not Japanese. It's the first game from a small indie studio and they couldn't afford a real translation team. One of the devs stated on the Steam forums that they tried to go with a real translation studio and that the costs were astronomical due to the large amount of text. Instead they just paid a guy off the street who was halfway decent at English to do it for them.

The game seems to improved with the last patch. I crashed once earlier and it didn't corrupt my saves so that's nice.

According to Steamspy 50k-100k own this game. 100k-500k own that shitty XCOM Chimera Squad game. That makes me pretty butthurt. This game really deserves to get a massive amount of sales. With 2020 not looking so great this might end up being my GOTY unless Bloodlines 2 turns out to be as good as the first game.
