Thinking about adding a toggable difficulty option that locks saving when in "dungeons."

I'll test this out in the next demo and see if people like it.

I think the intended "normal" difficulty of this game will be quite brutal.
Good you're making it an option. IMO, if you want challenge, you can always not save yourself. But when having wife & kids it's really helpful to be able to save & quit anytime, anywhere, without losing any progress. On the other hands, your games are the kind you play when no wife nor kids are around ;)

This game should be "safer" for streaming/other people in the room, there'll probably be a toggle for the NSFW content.

The primary difficulty options are also toggable. Right now for the full game I'm thinking:

  • Do "use anywhere" HP/resource-restoring items exist?
  • Resting options and limitations
  • How recovering from trauma/curse status effects work
  • Permadeath
  • Saving in dungeons
  • Maybe changes in the strategic layer AI
  • And lastly, time constrictions on quests. You no longer have all the time in the world to complete them
The "intended" difficulty is of course the hardest one.
Tyr why are you trying to accommodate people who want it to SFW? Its a porn themed game, Im sure no one watches porn at work or in front of there kids?

You have been very open about what this game is so why be concerned about it being NSFW because thats not that the vision or design of the game, is it more a commercial reason which I understand?

Eh? It's just a toggle that locks sex scenes. You click it on/off. There's no real content changes.

The only reason I didn't add it to my last game was because that was about managing a brothel, so it was inherently NSFW.

Don't worry, there'll be plenty of porn.

We're used to people making porn and "eh there's a minigame".
We're even used to people making a game and "eh there's fanservice".
It's all too rare for a developer to say "Hey I'm going to make a good game, with good porn as one element." Don't discourage it!
Remember how Jagged Alliance 2 had an option to disable "gun porn" at the start of a game? Same thing and good design decision.

If yes, what exactly prevents you from doing so even without a special checkbox in the settings?
The same thing that prevents you from reloading a save when you feel like you've been hit enough times. Hit point mechanics, and all limitations or rules in any game, are all just crutches for the weak-willed.
I asked openly in good faith, but have yet to see a direct and honest anwer.
But at least it's clear why my post has rubbed your wrong, haha.
Welp, I hope every game you play will give you a shiny badge of honor for being the hardcore iron-man.
Just don't mistake time waste for challenge.

With timed quests please put something in the journal or whatever to note that.
My issue has never been with time constraints in rpg's but more that they are often not labeled as such.
It might sound counter intuitive but most quests in rpgs have a "omg help us!" vibe to them but few are time locked so when they are its like damnit I didn't realize that wasnt just narrative to instill a sense of urgency!

I didn't start off by name calling - you did. But if you want something approaching an honest answer, I'll say this - I'm about 80 hours into my ironman run of Wizardry 8 and it really, really does change the complexion of the experience and heighten the tension like you (I guess) wouldn't believe.

To frame it another way more appropriate to this particular game: playing a long game with ironman off is like having sex pretending you're wearing handcuffs. It can be quite lovely! and maybe you're not bad at amateur improv ... but people who actually wear the handcuffs are correct to shake their heads at you if that's the riskiest you have the courage to go.

Don't get mad at game developers for giving players a "handcuffs on" option.

Ok, fair enough.
I can accept there is a peculiar enjoyment someone might have from tickling his balls with a razor while sniffing sneezing powder, even if it's not my cup of tea.

Still, this is not about difficulty, not about challenge.
It's all about risk and sense of danger.

Maybe it's somewhat related - the usual risk-vs-reward formula - but it's not the same.
Playing russian roulette is risky, not challenging.
Winning marksmanship tournament is difficult, but without risk.

I'm not against the option itself,
I don't like when it's being mistaken for "extra challenge" and tied to the difficulty settings.
Let it be a separate checkbox, not inhereted to the hardest mode.

I see what you're saying, but in this context, risk and challenge are just about one and the same. It's much easier to win 100 tough fights in a row if you can save the game after every one and retry each one as many times as you want. It's just flat out less challenging to get past the 100th one.

Completely agree of course. Mixing difficulty options together into one slider is always asinine. "Oh you want the harder puzzles? Good, then all enemies have 5x hit points too."

Next demo should include character creation.

Yes you can go down to 0 on your attributes, even 0 on all of them. Edit: Nvm the engine freaked out at 0 for some reason. :/ 1 will be the min.

And yes, it would apply penalties.

Change Willpower to Discipline, Physicality to Impetus, Perception to Cognizance, Intellect to Keenness. Leave Sanguinity as is, now you can do the DICKS system.
For female characters, use Cognizance, Litheness, Industry/Intent, Thought, and Sanguinity. CLITS.
You’re welcome.
