How is this "indie" fad different from shareware shovelware era of the 1990s? Sure more varied, more plentiful, and overall improved middleware tools make it higher quality looking shovelware. But again, it's 2016, that much is expected. Still amounts to "pls buy mah gaem! I work reel harrdd on it! I use da best toolz like unity and dx14!!!" Sharewave wave 2.0.

It IS open world. It's just an incredibly tiny open world. Really ruins the experience for me. It's like they planned it to be a massive scale, maybe an entire planet to explore. But it's tiny as shit.

It is essentially the same. I really like Subnautica and what I like most is the high level of persistence. Every piece of junk you ever drop will stay where it was and even be influenced by water physics. That's one of the reason it has huge system requirements, and savegames are in the hundreds of megabytes. And I have already written many times that if you show me the size of a savegame and I can say a lot about a game.

The same applies to Oblivion and Skyrim, yet their savegames are small. I guess that makes Bethderpsda sooper kool programmers then? :smug:

Yeah shareware sucked. Anyone remember "Yendorian"? But some shareware titles had a charm, they were so bad they were good. Also it was shovelware, but mostly *free* shovelware. You could try it with no harm to your wallet. Unlike 21st century videogame scams. I think I'll apply for ACN anytime now...

This guy is an indie as Electronic Arts is indie. He was promoted and supported by Popeamole Pope and probably financial sustained by him and his friends. So Indie only as a PR term. No real indie could do this from the start unless he will get contracts and publishing from big companies which restricts your creativity and in the end makes you no indie... PS4 release ? haha. Oh you foolish people.
Was there a pubsliher involved?

Indie.

Sadly, as there hasn't been a physical PC release, we can't fill a desert with them. The Offspring records will have to do.

Sadly, no. 18 Squintillion unsold discs would have been poetic justice.

He got picked up quite early by investors and journo shills, later Sony revelead themselves on PS.

Haha the shit game raised from 2/10 to 6/10. Godam man, so many stupid gamers on this planet.

gamespot gave it an absurd 7/10. they have no credibility.

Why not outright give it a 9 or 10? Ignorant people need someone or something to lead them.

Also NMS is the best plea against nuclear energy ever. Just imagine what could become of planet Earth with a massive fuel leak taking a look at its creatures.

Patch notes for the coming patch

UPDATE: AMD Phenom Support
Thousands of lines of assembly have been rewritten to support AMD CPUs. The game code no longer relies on anything above SSE 2,
Havok Physics has also now created new libs. Game is now confirmed working on Phenom CPUs.

UPDATE: Mouse Smoothing
Smoothing on mouse movement has been improved to prevent hitching or stuttering, and is now adjustable through the Options menu in “Mouse Smoothing”.
It now defaults to off. If you feel the framerate is "slow" or "lumpy", please make sure that this is turned off (it helps players with sub-30 fps)

UPDATE: Improved Performance
On CPUs with 4 threads or fewer, performance has been improved.
On CPUs with 8 threads, performance has also been significantly improved.

UPDATE: Radeon 6xxx
Added support for this GPU, which doesn't support OpenGL 4.5 fully.

UPDATE: Player Saves
Help to recover some player saves which had been lost or corrupt.

Alt-Tab has improved
Some systems/configs were crashing or not pausing correctly on Alt Tab. This should now be resolved.

Shader Caching
Framerate was initially stuttering due to shaders not being correctly cached by the GPU on some systems. We have replaced the GPU caching system. You may notice some stutter during the Galactic Map intro to the game (the very first time you run), but it should be smoother from then on (this will be fixed in future). This is particularly true on ATI cards

Max FPS Cap
On some CPU/GPU configurations, setting Max FPS to 60 or 30 was not giving 60 or 30 FPS (causing stuttering). This has been improved.

Intel GPU Detection
We do not currently support Intel GPUS. We are working on this for a future patch, to expand our min spec.
In the meantime, the game will now let you know if you are trying to run with an unsupported GPU. This will hopefully flag for some users that their high end GPU has not been selected.

Gsync
Gsync has been disabled by default, which was causing an issue for some users

Jesus Christ, you have to make a patch for adding support for AMD Phenom CPUs and Radeon 6xxx series GPUs? This game would have been a mess on my system then, because I have that hardware.

I'm quite enjoying NMS steam forums. Whenever there's someone defending this shit "THEY HAVEN'T LIED!!" 95% of the time they have from tens to hundreds of hours in skyrim and/or fo4.
You could write a case study about it.
Look at this shit for example- http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198002969713/games/?tab=all
How do you possibly have a 3 digit number of hours in both Darksiders games? I don't think it even took me 20 hours to get everything in the first one.

If this disaster goes on it may rather be a certain bearded individual that will be buried in the desert of New Mexico, with two bucket of concrete at his feet.
Every single Indie studio out there would really hope to make a "disaster" such as this, heck even most AA publishers would hope to land some of these disasters every now and then.

Anyway, this is rather brilliant - Where's the NMS we were sold on? Here's a big list of things that are missing from the game, complete with source links for everything and quotes. Also, an unpleasant revelation concerning how the game is being advertised: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyT...res_the_nms_we_were_sold_on_heres_a_big_list/

Todd would be proud :lol::lol::lol:

There's also some other funny shit there:
