I like it how I went to the Underdark mostly because Shadowheart really wanted to find her Justiciars, and just like that, out of sheer improvisation, I stumble upon Grymforge and a whole camp of Underdark buddies.

Proficiency in the following:

Astarion: *Elf* Rogue

:kingcomrade:

Looks like its time to make an honest woman out of Shadowheart and I know just the man for the job.
Mage Hand legerdemain is bugged and doesn't do anything different than regular Mage hand

Thx, I’ll hold off until it’s fixed. Main thing is disadvantage on saves vs spells and Elf getting Longbow prof to go with Spellthief (and Rogues getting more crits from always attacking with Advantage). That and noticing that Longbows get Brace.

Astarion as MC lets me set him up like I want from the beginning and saves having to sub him in for Thievery. Assassin is about a big first hit but other Rogues about generating consistent attacks with Advantage. Being at range with Stealth/Invis = less need for Defensive stuff and CON. Trickster can handle some Wiz utility letting me cut Gale until Magical Ambush kicks in and he can do some controlling w/advantage to let the bigger hitters have free rein.

Lmao, i'm actually enjoying Lazael, or rather i'm enoying putting the snotty bitch down. She acted all mighty when questiong the tiefling about his encounter with the gyth so i told the bitch to fuck off since as a noble paladin there's no way i could stand for this clear abuse of the innocent. The elf waifu approved too.

Ho, i also tried reading some of the books around since i figured out that reading them doesn't count as stealing lol and while the writing isn't amateurish it is just so damn contemporary. There's not even an attempt at some faux ye oldie style. Of course, i know jack shit about Forgotten Realms lore so most of the books are basically gibberish to me.

They are pretty meh.

Worst ones are notes/diaries. Pretty much Betsheda esque worldbuilding. Here is sceleton and why it lies there insert makingdiarywhilestabbed.jpg meme

There really is a good amount of Bard-exclusive content and though the Bard abilities start slow (extra short rest underrated if you like to keep the long rests to a minimum but the cantrip is pretty bad compared to just archery) it pulls enough weight to justify itself beyond skill monkeying, which is nontrvial in itself (just passed a 20 DC Perception check and got 100 EXP from a Performance). Should be able to get reasonably tanky with the other two Schools with Shield prof and Illusion Magics, but the Medium Armor Feat itself gives you +1 DEX and Shield Prof if you just take Lore.

The Reaction Performance (Cutting Words) is probably better Action economy than the other ones but theres a Feat that lets you spend your reaction to add Prof bonus to AC so who knows.

I’m doing Lore with Sneaky Archery using Elemental Arrows and casting where I can get advantage. Deep Gnome gets advantage to Stealth so pretty easy to start with advantage then keep later with Invis.

Wtf, U can't delay/ready action in combat ?

That sucks for rogues with high init, when you want to perfom sneak attack.

Too bad for the thorough 5ed implementation.

Early Act 3:
My god, this story is retarded beyond words.
More detail please, objective analysis is always helpful

Stilll stuck in act 1 :negative:
None of the plot points respect Mindflayer lore whatsoever. They completely failed to understand what Illithids are and how they work.
Can you please elaborate? I already finished the game, so you don't have to worry about spoiling anything.
Mindflayers are not individuals. Not in any real sense. They can't just "break free" all of a sudden, regardless of what their host organism might have felt. They utterly replace the personality of the host. There are some outliers that do things forbidden in their society, like studying magic, but ultimately they are all controlled by the Elder Brain. The Emperor could not possibly exist. Any sign of retained memories from the host is abominable to an Illithid and they go so far as to operate on their own brains to expunge them. Certainly no random low level Illithid can just up and "leave" his colony, to say nothing of running around Baldur's Gate.

Orpheus is also clearly an invention of Larian. The name alone is retarded.

Looks like a lot of this idiocy came from Volos Guide for 5E, which is hardly surprising. I guess even Illithids can't be Always Evil anymore.
None of this is true.

The mind flayers have a whole legend built around one of their own kind who retained all the memory and personality of his original self, they call it the Adversary. The Adversary was first described (and then detailed) in the second edition, and he's no mere legend, he actually exists. Book of Exalted Deeds from 3.5 also details a good mind flayer, who survives thanks to the Ring of Sustenance.
There's plenty of "normal" mind flayers who break away from the elder brains too - every alhoon (illithid lich) needs to break away first, because there's no way an elder brain would allow it to exist.

I'm playing through with cheats now and the game is heavily railroaded. A lot of branches I thought you could go with are really just smoke and mirrors because they all lead to the same place.

For example Helping the Absolutists and fighting them basically merge after the end of Act 2, breaking the majority of the branching. Which just so happens to make the game very frontloaded. Almost like intended.

Most of the C&C is centered entirely around the companions, which are easily the worst written part of the game.

Choosing to go through the Underdark or through the Mountain Pass still leads you to the same place, technically. But it literally has a few extra quests in each place, and a whole new location in each place, and some development on companion quests in each place.

The Illithiad is 1998 which is right at the end of the TSR branded books. This was after Wizards bought the company, so it's for AD&D 2E. I'd consider it to be apocrypha or DANDINO 3.x based upon when the book was released if you're a purist like me.

When you go to the
Gith Creche, you have the option to pass an Arcane check, which damages Lae'zel's INT and WIS stats (as far as I can tell permanently), but after that all Illithid powers can be used as Bonus Actions.

Fucking broken as fuck.
